Nivi Sharma
Nivi Sharma has dedicated her career to access; for children, youth, and adults. In 2011, Nivi co-founded eLimu, the first company to digitize the Kenyan Primary School curriculum for revision and literacy. eLimu was acquired by CcHub in 2020. Most recently, Nivi served as the Chief Operating Officer of BRCK, the onramp for frontier market internet users. Nivi serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Standard Chartered Bank Kenya, as well as on the board of Global Peace Heroes. She is a 2014 East Africa Acumen Fellow and a Fellow of the Fast Forward leadership program. In her spare time she enjoys cooking, camping and going on safaris with her family.
Abbie Noriega
I believe that all people should have access to education, employment, and basic healthcare, and that for isolated communities, footbridges can be a powerful tool for creating that access. At Fika, I work to understand the impacts that our projects have in communities around the world, and to develop ways to collect, manage, and use data to make informed decisions in every program and department.
Over the last decade my work has spanned operations, development, systems, monitoring and evaluation, and research, with focuses in agriculture, marine resources, environmental policy, gender, and poverty. When I’m not working with the incredible Fika family of staff, volunteers, and partners to build access through bridges, I spend my time in the kitchen, the garden, or the mountains.
Jennifer Isaac
I’ve spent over two decades in nonprofit and social impact spaces. My path to this role has been built through practice: founding and leading a nonprofit, supporting C-suite teams and boards across climate tech, international non-profit, and US-based community development organizations, and building operational infrastructure that allows mission-driven organizations to scale impact.
As my progression at Fika has taken me from managing executive operations to overseeing IT and business systems to now serving as Chief Operating Officer, I have learned the best operations leaders deeply understand their organization’s mission, listen to the people doing the work, and build systems that enable their success.
I live in Denver, Colorado with my husband, an elementary educator, and when I’m not working, you can probably find me camping. As a recent empty-nester, I find joy watching my four young adult children find their paths. And as an adoptive mother of two children from countries where Fika works, whose lives were shaped by a lack of access, I have a deep commitment to creating safe access for everyone, everywhere.
Carolyn Ogott
Carolyn Ogott has built her career, with a passion for supporting the growth and development of impact-led individuals and organizations; and a rooting in the idea that people amplify purpose.
Carolyn’s talent journey over the past 10 years has evolved across several roles including Relationship Manager, Executive Recruiter, Project Manager, Client Success Executive, and Global Consultant with a specialization in the private and non-profit sectors; in the USA and Africa.
She is a SPHRi with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications and Marketing and a Prosci Change management practitioner.
Her role at Fika involves the design, development, communication, and execution of various talent strategies with an emphasis on creating happy, productive, and equitable workspaces.
In her spare time, she is a Lorax and an animal lover excited by sustainable solutions that protect our world.
Kelvin Mungai
I have observed that many rural communities in Africa lack access to clean, affordable energy, which impacts their ability to create industries at the rural level and undertake any impactful economic activity that stimulates growth at the rural level. I also observed that rural communities are impacted by climate change and lack climate mitigation mechanisms to protect their livelihoods. These two observations led me through a journey of working in a renewable energy/utility start-up and an insurance technology scale-up, and I recently discovered that poverty is also caused by rural isolation; now, at Fika, I have the opportunity to be able to tackle rural isolation, by participating in rural infrastructure planning. I believe that the rural economy, when properly incentivized and planned, is a catalyst for the economic development of a country or region.
At Fika, I lead a team that manages and disburses the financial resources needed to fund programs in various countries and report to various stakeholders. Also, crafting financial strategies that fit into the organization’s system theory of change. This includes risk identification and crafting the mitigation strategies, cashflow forecasts and analysis, budget preparation and tracking, financial and regulatory reporting, mobilizing funding opportunities for Fika government partners, and advancing the organization’s systems theory of change.
When I’m not working with the incredible Fika family of staff, volunteers, and partners to plan rural access, I spend my time playing golf, catching up with my family and recently my daughter.

Alissa Davis
I’m a storyteller, both by passion and by trade. I believe deeply in Fika’s commitment to linking isolated communities with the most elemental resources to combat poverty, and I’m jazzed to come to work everyday and tell the stories of the people and communities the organization partners with.
I came to Fika from a background in nonprofit development work for large-scale organizations working in the education space. I most recently served as Corporate and Foundation Relations Manager for City Year Denver. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing from Pepperdine University, a Masters of Humanities degree in Philosophy of Language and Ethics from the University of Chicago, and a Certificate in Publishing from New York University. In my time between the pursuit of my degrees, I served as a Fulbright Scholar in Denizli, Turkey, where I facilitated cultural exchange as a university guest professor and as a volunteer in primary school classrooms in research for a series of children’s books.
I’m a proud native of Denver, I grew up in Littleton, and in my time outside of my professional pursuits, I build and drag race cars. I’m a published author, an AmeriCorps alum, and a member of the board of the Colorado Coalition of Land Trusts.

My leadership at Fika continues to drive efforts to bridge the infrastructure gap in areas where connectivity is vital to improving livelihoods and creating sustainable development opportunities.
Zerihun Endale
I often think about how small changes can transform life for disadvantaged communities — a village schoolroom, a clean water point, or a rural road that finally connects people. My curiosity and care have guided 20 years of development work across education, migration, child protection, WASH, and rural connectivity. At Fika Ethiopia, I connect evidence, policy, and field practice to build systems that improve daily life and offer hope for the future. I work closely with government, communities, and partners to make that possible. Outside work, I stay active through football, walking, and cycling.
Zerihun Endale, PhD, is a development leader with 20 years of experience across Ethiopia and Sub-Saharan Africa. He drives rural access initiatives that foster inclusive social and economic outcomes. His work spans partnerships, research, and program delivery with WaterAid UK, SOS Children’s Villages, Oxfam GB, International Rescue Committee, and Habitat for Humanity. Starting in academia at Dilla University, Zerihun built expertise in evidence-based program design, resource mobilization, grant management, and knowledge systems. Yoxara Flores
I was born and raised in Venezuela, where I learned about the world. During my high school years, I was involved in various volunteer groups and community projects. I graduated from the University of Carabobo with a degree in Industrial Engineering.
I believe that access is a human right. I joined Fika in 2017 as a Program Coordinator in Panama, which was one of the best experiences of my life. I not only discovered my passion for bridges, but also the importance of creating connections.
After almost a year and a half of leaving Panama and Fika to move to the United States, I rejoined Fika in 2019 at HQ, where I currently serve as Senior Marketing Manager. What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to share our stories and challenges with the world, while working hand-in-hand with a group of talented, innovative, and resilient people from diverse backgrounds.
I currently live in Denver, Colorado, with my husband (whom I met in Panama). In my free time, you can find me painting and creating art. I love being outside, and during the summer, you can find me playing tennis, riding my bike, or camping. However, during the winter, you’ll find me learning to ski.

I am a mother of three with a graduate degree from School of Finance and Banking – Rwanda (SFB). I worked for KK Security for four years, managing payrolls for over a thousand employees, and in different projects funded by USAID in the finance department for over a decade and a half before joining Fika in May 2019 as a Program Accountant.
With a strong accounting and taxation background, I have always enjoyed working on payrolls and tax declarations. In addition to that I love playing with numbers and I enjoy doing reconciliations.
When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.
Barbrah Nakalembe
I believe that safe access is a human right. The imagination of a little girl child in the rural community not being able to access a school in the next town because of an impassable river makes me appreciate the work we do at Fika. Enabling access to schools through the construction of trail bridges in rural communities has a far-reaching impact on the education levels of a nation. At Fika, my work is to ensure that the funds entrusted with us by our donors are used efficiently, effectively, and economically to ensure that value for money is achieved through adhering to the cost principles of Reasonableness, Allocability, Consistency, and Allowability across the regional programs.
In the past, I have performed Finance and accounting roles with the USAID /Integrated Child and Youth Development Activity, USAID/ Advocacy for Better Health Project, USAID/Healthcare Waste Management Activity and the Global Fund /Strengthening Community Level Systems and Addressing Human Rights Related Barriers for increased Uptake and Access to Services for PLWHIV, TB and key Populations in Uganda. In my spare time, I like keeping home with low volume music playing.
Mervin Lumai
Mervin Lumai is a Project Manager at Fika Zambia, where he leads the build team responsible for implementing trail bridge construction. He oversees on-site execution, ensuring that bridges are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Passionate about connecting isolated communities and creating lasting impact through infrastructure, Mervin combines technical expertise with team leadership to transform access to education, healthcare, and markets.
He also has a strong interest in sustainable infrastructure finance, exploring innovative ways to support long-term delivery of social infrastructure in underserved communities.
Tesfahun Molla
Tesfahun Molla has dedicated his career to improving access to essential services for underserved communities. His work emphasizes scalable, human-centered solutions, strategic partnerships, and the transfer of technology and skills to build local talent.
Before joining Fika, Tesfahun served as Senior Program Manager at Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation, where he led WASH programs, trail bridge initiatives, and youth-led enterprise development for post-construction services of water supply projects. He also worked as an independent consultant for the World Bank–supported Ethiopian National Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Program, and began his career as an engineer and technical expert in both government and private sector roles.
He has contributed to programs reaching more than 1.5 million people and successfully mobilized USD 2.3 million in co-financing for trail bridge construction in partnership with government. He aspires to continue leading for impact, developing scalable solutions that drive sustainable and lasting change.
Tesfahun holds a degree in Hydraulic Engineering and a Master’s degree in Construction Technology and Management, which underpin his expertise in engineering, program management, and sustainable development.
Outside of work, Tesfahun is curious about the world and its people. He finds calm and energy by the water, joy in exploring cultures, and inspiration in nature documentaries. Most of all, he is moved by stories of human resilience, which continually shape his perspectives on life, leadership, and meaningful contributions to community.
Edgar Mussajjawaza
I graduated with a bachelor’s of science in building economics and later pursued an ordinary diploma in civil and building engineering. During this period, I was mainly in the cell tower construction business, and due to my desire to improve on my leadership and construction management skills I pursued postgraduate diploma in project management, which I completed, followed by a master’s of science in construction, management. I possess over five years of postgraduate experience in public infrastructure design, construction supervision and project management.
I am a highly motivated and committed team player who believes that everyone has the right to feel joy in their lives, hence I came up with a phrase which I got from the word “JOY,” stating joined opportunities yield. I had this kind of mind set when I got the opportunity to work with Fika, which uses engineering and community resources to construct bridges for local communities, and I took it on with full enthusiasm.
I joined Fika in 2019 and I believe in the works of Fika, especially enabling isolated communities, which have difficulty connecting with other communities to have important opportunities (health facilities, education opportunities, markets for their produce) closer to them.
In my free time I normally engage in sports activities where I play or watch (cricket, rugby, lawn tennis) and some periods when I have the chance, I tutor the young generation through training clinics organized by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Firehiwot Mezgebu
I am a seasoned program manager, focusing on food security, livelihood and rural access development to eradicate rural poverty and inequality. I joined Fika in 2022 as an Ethiopia Program manager. I ensured the smooth integration of operation and program departments in the implementation of donor funding, including those from USAID, SIDA, EU, ECHO, DFID, and UNOCHA. I have also worked as a program officer and consultant for NGOs and UN agencies. I have a Masters degree in Food Security and Development Studies from Addis Ababa University as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Social Administration. My Master’s thesis was published in the EJDR Vol. 37 No. 1 (2015). I am now enrolled in a PMI certification course. I am married and a mother of two children and have a cute cat and dog. In my spare time, I like cooking and spending time with my family.

As a People Manager at Fika, I wake up every day inspired to enhance our work culture and contribute to the remarkable mission, knowing the meaningful impact it has on communities.
Outside of work, I have a keen interest in creative design, such as graphics & interior design, I find joy in music, relish a good read, and eagerly anticipate a refreshing workout at the end of a long day.
I am eager to contribute to Fika’s impactful mission, aligning my passion for social development and empowering vulnerable populations with the organization’s commitment to building critical infrastructure and improving accessibility in rural areas.
Tina Gunnarsson
Tina is a Chartered Civil Engineer with a passion for creating a people and planet-positive future. She leads Sustainability and Social Inclusion at Fika, building on her experience as East Africa Corporate Manager building trail bridges with rural communities in Rwanda.

Hannah Tinkleberg
I joined Fika with a background spanning philanthropy, government, and the nonprofit sector. At the heart of each of these experiences has been a commitment to strengthening community resilience and expanding access and opportunity for all. I believe deeply that everyone should have access to basic needs and the ability to reach their full potential if they choose. At Fika, I’m energized every day by supporting an incredible team working tirelessly to end poverty caused by rural isolation. In my role as Development Operations Manager, I focus on providing exceptional logistical, operational, and data support to drive revenue growth and advance program development.
I was born and raised in a small rural community in southern Colorado—ironically, just down the road from the highest suspension bridge in the United States (and the seventh highest in the world). Today, I live in Fort Collins, Colorado, a laid-back college town an hour north of Denver. Outside of work, I enjoy the outdoors with my family, sampling craft brews, exercising, and planning my next renovation project or family adventure.
Yezakuzwe Emmanuel
I had a desire of becoming an outstanding structural engineer after earning my bachelor’s degree in civil engineering because I wanted to reduce the dangers of buildings and bridges collapsing because of poor structure construction management.
I have had a long career in project management and structural engineering spanning more than 5 years. Prior to my two years as a project engineer at association d’exécution des traveaux d’intérêt public (ASSETIP), I spent three years as a site supervisor at Sk Archplans Architects & Town Planners.
I hold a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from University of Rwanda.
I am extremely thrilled to be a part of Fika’s ambitious mission and serve as the project engineer because I believe we will succeed in eliminating poverty brought on by rural isolation.

Etienne Mutebutsi
I’m inspired by working with the local communities and the entire Fika team to transform unsafe existing bridges (or river crossings with no bridge at all) to safe ones. I believe that the safe crossing offers equal opportunities for access to education, health care and economic opportunities.
I began working with Fika as a civil engineer student intern during the summer of 2013, then joined the Fika team full-time as construction manager in the field and oversaw the construction of both Sha and Rwamahwa suspended bridges. My work over the past eight years has focused on construction management, trailbridge designs, assessment of sites and topographic surveys, and negotiations with local partners. All this made me travel to almost all districts of Rwanda. Now, I am the Rwanda Partnerships Manager and spend much of my time in Kigali with some trips to negotiate with partner districts and institutions.
I was born and grew up in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. I came to Rwanda in 2004 where I continued my studies. I live in Kigali with my wife and our two girls. When I’m not building bridges, I enjoy having fun with my girls and running.

Getachew Amare
I believe that, for all mighty problems that rural households are facing, there might be a way to solve them in the right manner, giving appropriate emphasis to the community’s needs. Research is the tool to identify those major problems and gaps, devise solutions, and implement interventions. So, prior to Fika, I was engaged in both applied and qualitative research aimed at addressing the issues that rural households face. I also made an effort to plan and carry out some volunteer projects. I’ve seen firsthand how well Fika is doing its part to improve rural households’ quality of life through the construction of trail bridges and other projects. It is incredible to witness a 36% increase in the labor market and a 75% increase in farm profit as a result of trail bridge interventions. It is very pleasing for me joining Fika and impacting rural livelihood. At Fika, I work on research about best practices in trail bridge impact evaluation, how the government collects, uses, and maintains infrastructure data, and successful models for rural infrastructure maintenance. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching movies, and hanging out with my loved ones.

In 2017, I was attached by MELTC to the first project in Kama, where I was assigned to learn the methodologies of the construction of trailbridges and as well as conduct monthly reporting to MELTC. Having worked with Fika team for most of the projects in Eastern Uganda under attachment by MELTC, I was able to learn a lot from the team and also the vision driving the Fika team, having communities’ lives improved by eradicating poverty due to isolation.
In September 2019, I joined Fika as Project Foreperson and since then, I have contributed my skills and knowledge to serve the communities.
During my free time, I like listening to music (gospel), spending time with family, reading news and also inspirational books.

My on-the-ground experience managing trail bridge projects in Rwanda taught me that infrastructure is about more than steel and concrete. It’s about connection, safety, and dignity. As an environmental engineer with over a decade of experience in sustainable development and science communication, I’ve seen how the most impactful projects are the ones that give people agency and make them feel seen.
I joined Fika (then Bridges to Prosperity) in 2015 as Rwanda Country Director, where I witnessed firsthand how rural connectivity transforms lives. Since then, I’ve carried out biodiversity research across Cambodia, New Zealand, and Montana with conservation organizations, and explored natural history storytelling through film. Now back at Fika, I lead rural transport and resilience planning, bringing together research, technical expertise, and storytelling to drive change at scale.
I’m based in Montana with my partner Tim and our cat, Purr Purr, and spend time in my second home, Sweden – where ‘fika’ means something entirely different. You can often find me outside running trails, foraging, camping, or watching wildlife.
