Welcome to Fides' Live Journal. If you are reading this you have either got horribly lost or are trying to work out who I am and whether you want to listen to me waffle. If it is the first then google is probably your best bet, if the second then probably not but you are welcome to anyway.

This journal mostly exists so my far flung family and friends can keep up with what on earth is going on in my life so don't expect any posts of brilliant, witty and insightful comments. However don't let that put you off.

I have just defended my doctorate in Human Comupter Interaction. Specifically I am looking at fanfiction (and original fic) and how the semantic web might be used to support the community (summary here). I think this is a cool subject. If you want to know more then my official project page can be found here. As part of this we have created an ontology to describe the contents of media (the project page for that can be found here and the related discussion group here).

I do write myself (mostly slash for some reason *eg*). If you are looking for my scribbles announcements get posted to a flocked group. If you want to read them then drop me a comment here and I'll add you to the group. Old stuff is on my website (desperately in need of updating). At least they are on the rare occasions I actually manage to finish anything. I also helped set up The Cartouche an all purpose Stargate/Stargate: Atlantis archive and Wolf and Hound the archive for the Sirius_Black_and_Remus_Lupin Yahoo group. I am also a regular attendee at Connotations the wonderful UK Slash Convention (which I highly recommend) and nominal moderator of London Slash Devotees - the LJ community for london based slashers and slash-friendly people, Watcherverse - the evil crossover universe from hell (do come play, odds are good your fandom is represented), new_cancun (the slashiest show ever), tw_declassified (the home of Torchwood Bingo) and co-mod for Rayne'n'Chaos (an Ethan Rayne based LJ community).

I am currently in the middle of a novel length Stargate very-AU story set in Ancient Rome (for a new definition of the word 'middle'), any number of watcherverse fics, and more other fics than I care to count in a vast range of other fandoms. One day I will learn to write *short* stories and will stop adding new fandoms to the collection.

This LJ is rated as containing adult concepts - I'm not worried about any sexual content, but discussion of the Semantic Web and ontologies should never be inflicted on children.
