Welcome! My name is Mike. I am an artist, writer, and passionate birder and bird photographer. While I’ve used cameras for many years, I only got more serious about photography in the past four years. I started this blog as a place to share some of my photos with family and friends, and named it Feathers and Leaves for my interest in both landscape and bird photography. As it stands, there are way more feathers than leaves here!
For you gear heads, my main camera is a Sony RX10 IV. Most of the photos on this blog were shot with that camera. The only filter I normally use is a circular polarizer, which does double duty as a lens protector in place of the more usual UV filter.
I like having full control of the camera, so I shoot in manual pretty much all the time. I shoot RAW files and process them in Darktable, which is an outstanding open-source image editor and workflow manager. I occasionally use GIMP for some tasks. I tend toward minimal editing, but I generally crop bird photos.
Thanks for stopping by!
