FH Faunteroy Center & Resilience Incubator

We have activated DC’s First Resilience Hub, a space of belonging and collective care.
As a resilience hub we provide a safe space for community connectivity and connection, In times of Crisis we strengthen and fortify. Regular programming is supportive to lifting individuals and their ability to thrive and actively partake in the revitalization of their community.
Recognized for our track record and trust with the community through youth and family programming, we were selected in 2019 to implement the first pilot community led resilience hub in the District called the FH Faunteroy Center & Resilience Incubator (FC&I). Since then, our focus has been to provide opportunities to uplift individuals while considering the intersectionality between ecological and health challenges, economic mobility, response to disruptions, and community cohesiveness. Therefore, our multifaceted mission consists of increasing self-determination through the various program pillars and foundational components.
Our evidence-based approach incubates resiliency through three program pillars: Economic Mobility, Wellbeing & Sustainability in order to address the social, economic, health, community, and environmental determinants of resiliency as well as the intersectionality of these components.
FH Faunteroy Center & Resilience Incubator is the trade name for Rockson Community Development Corp. is a 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in Ward 7 D.C. It was founded in 2013 to serve marginalized communities and by doing so honoring the legacy of F. Harvey Faunteroy; a prominent Black Washingtonian and philanthropist who advocated for youth and education.

Community Resiliency Hubs are trusted, service-oriented community-based organizations with strong leadership located in marginalized communities with the aim of enabling sustainable communities through various programming unique to the community it serves. With a mission to embolden self-determination and agency in the community, the FC&I provides consistent, high-quality youth, adult, and senior programming aligned with community needs. By incorporating local talent, resources, and specialists into our operations, we ensure deep connections with the predominantly African American communities we serve and actualize our value of Excellence With, By and For the Community.

FH Faunteroy Center & Resilience Incubator
programmatic values are centered around the four E’s:

Education, Exposure, Enrichment, and Excellence

Education

Sometimes, we have to go back to the basics to move forward.  Our educational programming centers around supporting our youth after and out of school, adult/family literacy classes that enhance their successes in workforce development career pathways, increase knowledge on better health & wellness, and community engagement through meaningful educational/literacy programming.

Exposure

Quite a number of the community members we serve are under-exposed to what lies beyond their neighborhoods.  Our youth programming is especially focused on exposing our youth to what lies beyond the possibilities of their neighborhoods. Exposure we believe is an extremely important ingredient towards reducing youth violence and increasing environmental literacy.

Enrichment

A key ingredient towards reducing youth violence is to provide programming that enhances and enriches day-to-day experiences of youth and families.   This includes programming around environmental literacy, which exposes community members of all ages to the richness and treasures that surrounds them, it also include STEAM programming, chest club, adult hand-dancing, yoga, and intergenerational story-telling.

Excellence

Our motto is “Excellence not Perfection” we focus on delivering excellent experiences, being an excellent community partner, and propagating the values of excellence.  As a result, we facilitate excellence within our community by tapping into the talents and brilliance of each individual so that we collaboratively benefit as we strive for excellence in all we undertake.

Vision

As DC’s pioneering community-led resilience hub, our vision is to lead the region in shaping implementation and sustainability roadmaps for resilience hubs, which also set transformative standards for how communities prepare, adapt, and ultimately thrive

Mission

Our Mission is to build resiliency within the community, rooted in culture heritage and driven by action. We do so by providing safe spaces, preparing for disruption, addressing stressors, and strengthening the community’s collective capacity to thrive. We mobilize around three interconnected pillars: Economic Mobility, Wellbeing, and Sustainability
