People & Expertise

Simple things are already done. What remains are the difficult ones. This is what we solve.

Fauna brings together life scientists and engineers who move beyond the laboratory into real-world systems — navigating complexity, uncertainty, and scale. We did not step out of science for commercialization itself, but because impact requires translation: from knowledge into systems that work in the field.

Our work lives at the intersection of scientific depth and practical implementation. This is where meaningful change happens — not in theory, but in applied, operational environments.

Over the years, more than 50 engineers, PhDs, and MScs have contributed to building this foundation. Many were educated within Denmark's leading research institutions, shaped by a Nordic mindset where sustainability, systems thinking, and societal responsibility are inherently embedded.

We are not here simply to build products. We are here to build systems that matter.
We build with depth. We build to scale.

Dr. Dragana Vukasinovic

Founder & CEO

Entrepreneurial Scientist and founder of Fauna Smart Technologies ApS (Denmark) and Metsa Space Music OÜ (Estonia), operating at the intersection of science, climate, entrepreneurship, and capital for over 15 years in the Danish ecosystem.

At Metsa Space Music, we believe that translating scientific knowledge into real-world tools is not only an opportunity — it is a responsibility. This philosophy is rooted in the work of our parent company, Fauna Smart Technologies. From its foundation, Fauna has been built on the principle that scientists must step beyond academia to guide the development, application, and commercialization of technologies that address real environmental challenges.

Miguel Angel Crozzoli

Miguel Angel Crozzoli, MSc

Tech Lead – Audio & Visual Data Design

Specialises in translating complex datasets into sound, offering a unique lens for analysis. He bridges data science and perceptualisation, delivering innovative methods for multi-sensory data representation.

Miguel holds an APD in Artistic Research with a focus on sonification and data harmonisation. Currently finishing a PhD on multi-display systems for big data, Miguel explores how AI and embodied cognition can reveal emergent meaning through interactive feature relations. His creative and analytical approach brings depth to our ecological data processing and enriches the multidimensional assessment of forest health.

Dr. David Susič

Dr. David Susič

Audio Data & Programming Lead

A versatile scientist working across diverse data formats — from images and audio to time-series. His doctoral thesis focused on detecting cardiovascular irregularities using heart sound recordings.

Dr. David Susič is a resourceful and versatile scientist whose collaborative spirit shines through his work with experts across diverse domains. He navigates both classical machine learning and cutting-edge deep learning approaches, with a deep understanding of explainable AI, algorithmic transparency, ethics, and user experience.

His curiosity led him into acoustic biology, where he contributed to pioneering projects on pollinator monitoring — capturing and analyzing the buzzing sounds of bumblebees and solitary bees, with support from National Geographic. Beyond his core research, David has contributed to epidemiological modeling during the COVID-19 pandemic and led educational initiatives in AI.

Dr. Maria Luisa Buchaillot

Dr. Maria Luisa Buchaillot

Remote Sensing Lead

An interdisciplinary Environmental Scientist with 7+ years of international experience across Latin America, Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. PhD from the University of Barcelona with the Extraordinary Award for Academic Excellence.

Maria Luisa moves seamlessly between academia and applied research to bring science closer to action. She has worked to bridge geospatial innovation with local realities, developing decision-support tools that connect satellite data, ecosystem knowledge, and policy frameworks.

She conducted research in partnership with institutions such as FAO, ICBA, Syngenta, and Auburn University, focused on multi-scale, multi-sensor remote sensing for early warning systems in agriculture. She later joined the National Research Council (CNR) in Florence as a postdoctoral researcher, contributing to EU-aligned efforts in digital agriculture and climate resilience.

Calum Builder

Calum Builder, MSc

Acoustic Research

APD in Artistic Research focusing on recording and exploring acoustic spaces. His work involves capturing soundscapes to understand the acoustic environment.

Calum's research contributes to developing a structural procedure for data collection and carrying out in-field tasks for this project. He will be involved part-time in the BAT project.
