Join us at the National Theatre in Iași for three evenings of TALKS at FAST 2025 - a series dedicated to collaboration, trust, and the evolving role of architecture. Each night brings together leading voices who explore how architecture connects people, disciplines, and ideas. On stage: Muromuro Studio (Ioana Chifu & Onar Stănescu), Ingeborg Christiane Hau, Gideon Maasland (MVRDV), Francesca Torzo, Pablo Allard, Jonas Janke (bplus.xyz), and Andrea Deplazes (ETH Zürich / Bearth + Deplazes). RO: Secțiunea de conferințe TALKS își propune exploreze rolul arhitecturii în cultivarea încrederii, în spațiul public, în colaborările profesionale și în relația dintre comunități și instituții. Sub tema „Becoming trustworthy / arhitectura ca mediu al încrederii, FAST 2025 aduce prelegeri internaționale organizate de Ordinul Arhitecților din România (OAR), o conferință academică găzduită de Facultatea de Arhitectură din Iași și ateliere dezvoltate în parteneriat cu universități din țară și din străinătate.

EN: The TALKS conference series investigates how architecture can foster trust—in public space, in professional collaboration, and in the relationship between communities and institutions. Under the theme “Becoming trustworthy / architecture as a medium of trust, FAST 2025 features international lectures curated by the Romanian Order of Architects (OAR), an academic conference hosted by the Faculty of Architecture in Iași, and workshops developed in collaboration with universities from Romania and abroad.

RO:Convergence X5” propune un concept expozițional mai selectiv, oferind școlilor posibilitatea de a-și curatoria propriul conținut, în limita a 40 de panouri fiecare. Acest conținut va reflecta abordările diferitelor ateliere din școlile de arhitectură din România, care tratează una dintre cele trei sub-teme ale festivalului. La fel ca în prima ediție, această expoziție va fi itinerată la fiecare dintre cele cinci facultăți de arhitectură din România: București, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Iași și Oradea.

EN:The “Convergence X5” exhibition aims to be more selective, allowing schools to curate their own content, within a limit of 40 panels each. This content will reflect the approaches of various workshops from Romanian architecture schools, addressing one of the festival’s three sub-themes. As in the first edition, this exhibition will travel to each of the five architecture faculties in Romania: Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Iași, and Oradea.

RO: Ca eveniment conex, cele cinci școli participante vor realiza, sub coordonarea facultății gazdă, o instalație arhitecturală care interpretează tema generală a festivalului. Pavilionul rezultat va fi expresia colaborării și creativității studenților de arhitectură din toată țara și va aduce o contribuție vizibilă peisajului arhitectural și cultural al orașului Iași. Această inițiativă, continuând tradiția primelor două ediții, va rămâne un simbol al coeziunii și inovației în arhitectură și va stimula dialogul și conexiunile între viitorii profesioniști.

EN: As a parallel event, the five participating schools will design, under the coordination of the host faculty, an architectural installation inspired by the festival’s general theme. The resulting pavilion will reflect the creativity and collaboration of architecture students from across the country and will become a meaningful addition to the architectural and cultural landscape of Iași. Continuing the tradition of the first two editions, this initiative will stand as a symbol of unity and innovation in architecture, encouraging dialogue and future professional connections.

Host School Exhibition Opening & Pavilion Opening – ACTIVATIONS

The Host School Exhibition offers an insightful glimpse into the identity of the Faculty of Architecture “G.M. Cantacuzino” in Iași, bringing together works from all study years and disciplines. Aligned with the theme “Architecture as a Framework for Collaboration and Trust,” it celebrates architectural education as a shared space of creativity, exchange, and collective growth. A mixed team of makers and tutors is bringing to life the FAST 2025 Pavilion, designed by students and professors from the architecture schools of Iași, Bucharest, Timișoara, Cluj, and Oradea. Workshop MVRDV – Transformations

The Transformations Workshop is a two-day workshop exploring how existing buildings can be reinvented to meet contemporary needs. Led by Betty Drăgan, Miruna Dunu, and Ciprian Buzdugan from MVRDV, participants will work in multidisciplinary teams to develop sustainable, circular, and low-impact design concepts for real sites in Iași. The workshop concludes with an exhibition featuring student proposals alongside MVRDV’s curatorial materials Carbon Confessions and ABC of Sustainability. Open to 25 participants. The Affective Cartographies Workshop is a two-day workshop that invites participants to poetically explore the relationship between city, perception, and memory. Guided by Tiberiu Teodor-Stanciu and Ramona Costea, it combines a sensory urban walk with a creative exercise translating lived experiences into collective affective maps. The Broken Telephone (with Images) is a two-day workshop examining how visual meaning transforms through repetition and reinterpretation. Facilitated by Laurian Ghinițoiu and Marius Vasile, the exercise replaces words with images in a chain of visual exchanges, revealing how perception, memory, and intention evolve through communication. Ingeborg Christiane Hau

Ingeborg Christiane Hau is a Danish art and culture historian specializing in sustainable architecture. Former deputy commissioner of the Danish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, she researches the social and environmental dimensions of sustainability, promoting collaboration, care, and community agency through projects like The Rebuilding Project.

Gideon Maasland

Gideon Maasland, architect and director at MVRDV, leads Studio NL+ in delivering complex large-scale projects worldwide. Combining architectural precision with construction expertise, he has shaped landmarks such as Valley and Tripolis Park in Amsterdam and Grotius Towers in The Hague, redefining urban density and architectural innovation.

The second night of the TALKS series will take place at the Iași National Opera, continuing FAST 2025’s exploration of “Architecture as a Framework for Collaboration and Trust.” This edition features keynote presentations by Francesca Torzo, founder of Francesca Torzo Architetto, and Pablo Allard, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Arts at Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile. Through their distinct practices — rooted in craftsmanship, material sensitivity, and social engagement — both architects will reflect on how architecture can nurture trust, identity, and resilience within communities. The evening will invite dialogue on cultural continuity, reconstruction, and the shared values that define responsible design today.

Pablo Allard

Pablo Allard, architect with a Doctorate and MAUD from Harvard GSD, is Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Arts at Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile. Co-founder of ELEMENTAL and Allard & Partners, he is renowned for his work in social housing, sustainable mobility, and post-disaster reconstruction, leading Chile’s urban recovery after the 2010 earthquake and tsunami.

Francesca Torzo

Francesca Torzo (Padova, 1975) studied in Barcelona, Mendrisio, and Venice, graduating with honours in 2001. She founded her practice in Genoa in 2008 and teaches in Bergen and Mendrisio. Her acclaimed project Z33 House for Contemporary Art in Hasselt received the Piranesi Award (2018), Premio Italiano di Architettura (2020), and was a Mies van der Rohe Award finalist (2022).

Workshops – closing exhibition

The Workshops Vernissage showcases the results of three intensive workshops — Transformations, Affective Cartographies, and The Broken Telephone (with Images) — developed over two days during the festival. Participants explored themes of sustainability, perception, and communication through collaborative design experiments. The exhibition invites visitors to experience how these explorations materialized into creative, thought-provoking installations reflecting the spirit of FAST 2025.

Trustworthy – Young Architects Panel

Organized by the OAR Iași Branch, this interactive session is dedicated to young and trainee architects. Using a specially designed board game as a conversation starter, participants will explore themes of professional growth and early career experiences in a relaxed, engaging format. The event also includes the presentation of the Internship Brochure and related resources that support emerging architects.

TALKS: Jonas Janke and Andrea Deplazes @ Iași National Opera

The third and last evening of the TALKS series at the Iași National Opera concludes FAST 2025 with two keynote lectures by Jonas Janke, partner at bplus.xyz in Berlin, and Andrea Deplazes, professor at ETH Zürich and co-founder of Bearth + Deplazes Architekten AG. Both architects will address the festival’s theme, “Architecture as a Framework for Collaboration and Trust,” through the lens of material honesty, adaptive reuse, and the ethics of construction. The evening will explore how contemporary architectural practice can build credibility and care — from the design process to the making of spaces that endure.

Jonas Janke

Jonas Janke is an architect and partner at bplus.xyz, Berlin. Trained as both a draughtsman and architect, he studied in Hamburg, Stockholm, and Berlin. A member of the 2038 German Pavilion team at the Venice Biennale 2021, his current work focuses on ecological construction methods, adaptive reuse, and pragmatic material innovation.

Andrea Deplazes

Andrea Deplazes studied architecture at ETH Zürich, graduating in 1988. That same year, he co-founded Bearth + Deplazes Architekten AG and began teaching at HTW Chur. Since 1997, he has been Professor of Architecture and Design at ETH Zürich, where he also served as Head of the Department of Architecture (2005–2007). His practice and research bridge construction, pedagogy, and the ethics of making.
