Squeezing out this post during a wee 36hr gap between four days at my family lake and three days camping elsewhere! June’s highlight was a little vacation to British Columbia to visit my aunt and uncle. But the month was further disrupted by some miscommunication from my landlord resulting in me spending several days packing up my entire apartment =.= I still have a couple bins to unpack but at least I’ve got all my books back on the shelves.
My disappearance from the blog in May and June was largely unexpected, but you won’t see much more of me here in July and August. I’ve intentionally planned a lighter posting schedule to account for summer outdoor activities and travel. I’ll try to pull things together to hit my goal of four posts/month. My next wrap up post will be in early September, when I write a joint post for July and August.
Books Finished
- Tear This Down by Barbara Dee (middle grade contemporary)
- Silverborn: The Mystery of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend (middle grade fantasy)
- Obaasan’s Boots by Janis Bridger and Lara Jean Okihiro (middle grade historical)
- They Bloom at Night by Trang Thanh Tran (young adult horror)
- The Lost Flower Children by Janet Taylor Lisle (middle grade contemporary/speculative)
Challenges Check-In
This section tallies up my annual goals. (Viewcount is the only monthly metric.)
- 35/82 books read
- A few books behind but plenty of time to catch up!
- 12/30 middle grade fiction novels
- More behind schedule than the above goal, but usually I knock out a good stack during Jul-Sept
- 1/10 owned books
- We have movement here!! I started a second book as well.
- 3/9 Family Reads
- I’ve fallen behind on the June post so there may be double posts in July… or I might just shift the whole schedule back a month… who knows what crazy choice I’ll make…
- 1/4 “I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Read that Yet”
- Reviewed 37% of what I read (goal = 50%)
- This has taken a hit with my lack of posting the past two months.
- 27/66 posts
- 1/4 posts in June
- 2,043/2,600 views in June
- Quite a dip this month. Lowest of all months this year.

On My Radar in July

- 8 July – Release date of The Secret Market of the Dead by Giovanni De Feo (adult historical fantasy)
- This one has a promising premise: “An Italian-inspired gothic historical fantasy debut in which a young woman competing with her twin brother to inherit the family forge finds her power in the nocturnal world that lurks beneath her own.” Kudos to whoever wrote that compelling copy! Hoping the writing style of the actual novel appeals to me…
- 15 July – Release date of The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (adult historical horror)
- Silvia Moreno-Garcia has quite a back catalogue. I have only read Mexican Gothic and I have Gods of Jade and Shadow on the TBR, but of all her books, the premise of this one appeals the most to me.
How was your June? What new books, or bookish events, are you looking forward to this month?
