Frequently Asked Questions

EZ-Steer Product Information

What happened to the old EZ-Steer products?

We’ve replaced over 1,000 of our old EZ-Steer product SKUs with the new EZ-Steer Universal System. This updated system consolidates all previous options into just three versatile auxiliary offsets (3″, 4″, and 7″) and comes with different rod lengths covering nearly every boat setup with 18 different combinations. The new design simplifies selection, offers better compatibility, and makes finding the right fit easier than ever.

Can I get EZ-Steer products repaired?

Our technicians can generally repair any EZ-Steer product, depending on the availability of parts.  Please send us an email describing what needs to be repaired, and consider including some pictures to help us troubleshoot your issue. In some cases you will be just as well off simply ordering replacement parts from our Parts Shop.

I have lost my installation/owner’s manual for my EZ-Steer Product. Where can I get a replacement?

Rod Separation and Outdrive Adjustments

How do I ensure proper rod separation when both units are down?

The connected rod should be as close to fully compressed as possible. If only two or three grooves are visible, the rod length is correct. If five or more grooves are showing, you need a longer rod.

What adjustments should I make with the auxiliary unit raised?

The bracket on the auxiliary outboard should be slightly off-center toward the main unit. Ensure the pivot tension on the auxiliary is completely backed off for free movement.

What can I do if the large outboard binds in the up position?

Lower both motor brackets and angle them slightly toward each other to relieve binding. Note that most large outboards cannot be lifted all the way up due to angle restrictions, and they provide better steering control when down.

Why doesn't the rod adjust properly?

If the rod is too loose or too tight, adjust by moving the inner rod in or out of the outer rod. If the inner rod won’t move, remove the outer rod’s white cap and back off the Allen screw inside the detente tube. Once adjustable, extend or insert the inner rod until the detente pin drops into a groove. Tighten the Allen screw snugly, then back it off 1.5 turns for proper pressure adjustment.

Do different outdrives require different brackets?

Yes, each outdrive type requires specific brackets:

  • OMC: Fits OMC Outdrives pre-1984 and OMC Cobra (1984-1994).
  • Mercruiser: Fits Alpha 1 Gen 2 (1992+) and Bravo 2, 3, 4S. Not recommended for Bravo 1.
  • Volvo: Does not fit outdrives that exhaust through the cavitation plate, but fits SX/Cobra (1993-2004).

Parts and Accessories

I need replacement parts that are not shown on the Part Shop of the website. Where can I get these?

Additional parts are available by calling or emailing Customer Service. While the parts shown on the Parts Shop of the website are the ones most frequently needed for our products, all the parts available are not shown.  Be prepared to provide which model you need parts for. Sending us pictures can be very helpful in ensuring that you get the proper parts.

I cannot find an EZ-Steer application for my main motor and kicker. Where do I get the correct part numbers to order?

Please contact our Customer Service Department for help on this. Be prepared to provide specs for your motors—make, year, HP, and the distance from center to center of the two motors when in the down position. NOTE: When emailing, please include your phone number.

Where can I get promotional stickers?

We now have promotional stickers available.  Please contact us with your name and address, along with how you plan to display your EZ-Steer sticker.
