Ever Active is a registered national charity focused on the well-being of children and youth.
Mission
To lead, activate, and build capacity for settings that nurture health and well-being.
Vision
Thriving schools and communities where children and youth grow, learn, and belong.
Values
Our values of relationships, inclusion, growth, community voice, kindness, and well-being guide who we are and all we do.
Our Approach
We take a capacity-building approach that builds on the strengths of the schools and communities we serve. Our work includes direct programming for children and youth, mentorship for school and community leaders, hosting events that foster growth and learning, and creating resources that support well-being.
Our Story
Ever Active Schools began in 2001 as a special project of the Health and Physical Education Council (HPEC) of the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA), with a goal of providing professional development opportunities for health and physical education teachers in Alberta. In 2017, Active Healthy Kids Canada (established in 1994)—an Ontario-based charity known for its influential Report Card on youth health (now the ParticipACTION Report Card)—was acquired by an Alberta-based board of directors to serve as a platform for thought leadership, coordination, and awareness of upstream approaches to healthy school communities.
Between 2017 and 2019, Ever Active Schools acted as an implementation partner under a board-approved partnership agreement, and as the Alberta-based board matured, the partnership was formalized. In September 2020, Ever Active Schools transitioned from the ATA to become a national, registered charity. While continuing to serve Alberta communities, its work expanded geographically to meet the needs of communities as they arose.
In fall 2025, Ever Active launched a refreshed brand and updated name, reflecting its commitment to fostering health and well-being in both school and community spaces and the collective impact possible when working together for healthier futures.
Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors brings diverse experience and a shared passion for healthy, active communities, guiding Ever Active to remain mission-driven, accountable, and future-focused.

Our Team
Over the years, we have welcomed new faces, said farewell to old friends moving onto new adventures, said see you later to those welcoming new additions to their families, and said hello again after parental leaves! We are forever grateful to the contributions of our team and the representatives of the communities we serve – without our people, Ever Active is only an idea.

Advisory Councils
The work of Ever Active is guided by representatives of the communities we serve. In 2023, we formed an Educator Advisory Council and a Youth Advisory Council, and we are exploring further advisory councils and members to include more voices in the work we do.
