In early 2026, the Oromo community of Seattle lost a charismatic community leader with the passing of Obbo Mama Argo. Mama Argo was one of EthnoMed’s generous and impactful early collaborators and served as Community Advisor helping get the HMC Community House Calls program off the ground.
Meeting in person with local community health organizations is essential to understanding the needs of the core patient population served by Harborview Medical Center. Community-based organizations help “fill in the gaps” by providing culturally and linguistically responsive education, advocacy, and support so individuals and families can truly thrive.
