Naheed Nenshi is a Canadian politician. He has been Leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party (NDP), from June 22, 2024, and Leader of the Opposition in Alberta, since July 12, 2025; as well as, a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Strathcona, since June 23, 2025. He was previously Mayor of Calgary, Alberta, from October 25, 2010 to October 25, 2021.

Naheed was born in Toronto, Ontario, the son of Noorjah and Kurbanali Hussein. His parents were of Gujarati Indian origin, and emigrated from Tanzania. He was raised in Calgary. He is an Ismaili Muslim. His mother’s surname is likely Esmail.
