Joseph was born in Bloomfield, Missouri, and had deep roots in the U.S. Clint’s great-grandfather Elijah was the son of Jesse John Walker and Elizabeth Hunter. Mary was the daughter of Joseph Rea and Anne Marshall.

Clint’s paternal grandmother was Mary Susan Pickens (the daughter of John A. Pickens and Belle Zada Davis). Mary was born in Paducah, Kentucky, and had deep American roots. John was the son of Alfred Pickens and Lavina Doyle. Belle was the daughter of Thomas Davis and Phoebe Ann Dodge.
