Bambaata Marley is a Jamaican singer and songwriter. He is also known as Bambaata, Daniel Marley, and Daniel Bambaata.
He is the son of Orly Agai and Jamaican singer Ziggy Marley, and the grandson of reggae singer and songwriter Bob Marley. Bambaata’s mother was born in Kfar Saba, Israel, to Iranian Jewish parents.
Bambaata is a nephew of reggae singers/musicians Sharon Marley, Cedella Marley, and Stephen Marley; and a half-nephew of entrepreneur Rohan Marley, reggae musician and songwriter Julian Marley, reggae musician Ky-Mani Marley, and singer Damian Marley. He is a cousin of filmmaker, activist, and actress Donisha Prendergast, and musicians Jo Mersa Marley and Skip Marley; and a half-cousin of professional football player Nico Marley, model and singer Selah Marley, and singer and songwriter YG Marley.
Bambaata’s paternal grandfather was Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley (the son of Norval Sinclair Marley and Cedella Editha Malcolm). Bob was born in Nine Mile, Saint Ann, Jamaica. Norval was born in Clarendon, Jamaica, and had English, and a small amount of African, ancestry. He was the son of Albert Thomas “Robert” Marley, who was born in South Weald, Brentwood, Essex, England; and of Ellen Ann Bloomfield. Bambaata’s great-grandmother Cedella was born in Rhoden Hall, St. Ann, and was a black Jamaican. She was the daughter of Omeriah/Amariah Malcolm and Alberta/Albertha Melida Willoughby/Whilby.
Bambaata’s paternal grandmother was singer Rita Marley (born Alpharita Constantia Anderson, the daughter of Leroy Anderson and Cynthia “Beda” Jarrett). Rita was born in Cuba, to Jamaican parents.
