I was bored today, just re-built my system and have nothing installed at the moment, so I went to check out my webstats - have had tons of visits to my site (www.myth-games.com) in the past month even though I haven't updated it, or promoted it or anything.
That's spurred me on to actually do some work on the thing though! I've added some news articles, started a few threads and stuff, and am going to actually promote the thing - oh, and find a good skin for the site too.
It would be nice to get a good community running on there, theres so many gaming forums at the moment but not focussed on the same kind of games that my friends & I play.
As for the game design project - still struggling with the characters, but getting there - I hope to put a site up there soon! |

I've been thinking a lot about my game design project. It's actually a game I'd like to do one day. We're allowed to use any existing IP we want, and I'm thinking of doing a game based around the BattleTech universe.
I'd like to offer lots of freedom for the player, and a chance to fight either side of the war - I'd set it around the time of the Clan invasion, allowing a Clan warrior to earn an honourable bloodname, and Inner Sphere warriors the chance to work up the ranks and beat back the invaders. I'm debating allowing the user to switch between FPS and moderate level RTS modes depending on the battle situation.
The ideas are still fairly early at the moment, I'm just mapping out the options and the first few missions. I'll probably start a separate web site to publish the ideas on when they get somewhere. If anyone is a fan of BattleTech, or has some thoughts about how to make a game GOOD, I'd love to hear them. |

Check out Eisley - they're a great cool new band.
I'm bored these days - off uni till the end of the month - been browsing for some new stuff to listen to while I code.
We'll be doing 2d games this semester - better than text I guess :)

Ok, after a long time away I've decided to come back to Live Journal and Blogging. Finally something interesting to write about!
I'm studying Computer Games Software Engineering at Northumbria University. A real programming course where they teach you to actually program C++, rather than cut and paste Java!
Hopefully these adventures in game development might be of interest to people out there. This semester they keep it simple for the newbies - text adventures, so they're letting Tineladia and I do a MUD since we've got some experience of C++ already - next semester we'll be moving on to the interesting stuff.
Any ideas for a good MUD appreciated - it's going to be a custom codebase so there's plenty of flexibility out there. You can't write an entire MUD in a few months, but the framework will be there for them to mark, and development will continue afterwards.

For Live Aid? (13 July, 1985) Er I was only 4 so I don't remember
When flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie? (21 December, 1988) And again I was 7 so *shrug*
When the Berlin Wall fell (9 November, 1989) Was watching the progress of this on Blue Peter and News Round. Everyone thought I was a bit sad for that.
When Thatcher resigned (22 November, 1990) *shrug*
When the Gulf War began (16 January, 1991) I was in bed at the time, but I got up to go get a drink and saw my brother watching the news. I went into school the next day and reported it to my teacher - felt really smart being the 'first to know'.
When Thomas Hamilton shot 3 teachers and 28 pupils at Dunblane primary school? (13 March, 1996) I don't remember this one.
When Princess Di was killed (31 August, 1997) I remember this one - I was at a Star Trek convention and it was the last day of it on the night she died, I went to grab some sleep in the coat room (didn't have a room cause the hotel was full. I couldn't sleep and was thinking about getting up to dance but didn't want to wake any of my mates. The someone came in and says 'Diana and Dodi Died' and I didn't even process it, I went 'ah, oh, whatever' and got up and went to dance.
The rest of the convetion was silent and everyone was really upset about some woman non of them even knew. I thought it was pretty stupid really - Mother Teresas death was close to Di's funeral and she really should have gotten more attention.
Rant over.
At midnight, 31 January, 1999? At home playing on the computer and wondering what the fuss was about.
When terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center (11 September, 2001) At work - it was the second day in my new job. There were a couple of Americans and some people with American long distance boy/girlfriends and they were all really stressed out.
We took a while off training to watch the news and stuff.
When Columbia disintegrated during re-entry over Texas. (1/2/2003) I don't remember this one either. I remember challenger (in a way, although I was pretty young I was really into space exploration) but this one didn't really have much impact on me. |
