This Friday, fighting snow and train delay, I went to Luzern (Switzerland) for “The Return of the King - Live to Projection”. The 21st Century Symphony Orchestra and 21st Century Chorus conducted by Ludwig Wicki have performed the Howard Shore’s Complete score of RotK. The concert was a wonderful experience, even better than FotR concert.

This picture is from the FotR concert in Luzern that I attended last September.
KKL Luzern Music Hall is modern and has a perfect acoustics. The Swiss audience was fond of both the movie and Shore’s score (I was sit next a cute boy with a big tattoo on his arm with the Ring Elven characters). I saw many people tearing during the most powerful scenes and I was one of them. It continue to amaze me how, after many years and countless rerun, these movies have the same powerful impact. At the end of the concert there was an unexpected gift: Howard Shore himself make an exit along with the concert conductor to collect the never-ending ovation.
Conductor Ludwig Wicki is a real lover of Tolkien and LotR Trilogy movie. He conducted in Luzern the first TTT concert with live projection in spring 2009, from this experience followed the other worldwide LorR concerts. He will conduct again the TTT score at the Royal Albert Hall in London in (April 23 and 24) and at Radio City Music Hall in New York (Oct. 8 and 9).
In THIS PAGE there is a video (in German) about the preparation of the concert with a short interview with H. Shore.
Dear LotR fanatics, if you have the possibility to go to one of this concerts, you won’t regret it! There will the possibility to see again one of our beloved movie on the big screen, but also to lower oneself in a sea of music that will overdraw the emotions arriving from the screen. |
