Wings Over Lake Erie: Spring Birding Series

Join Erie MetroParks for Wings Over Lake Erie as we celebrate the wonders of spring bird migration along the Lake Erie shoreline and throughout Erie County. As millions of birds travel north along various migratory flyways, our region becomes a haven for birdwatchers eager to spot warblers, shorebirds, and more. We will explore various parks and birding hotspots in search of our feathered friends. No Binoculars, no worries we have spares that you can borrow. All birding skill levels welcomed. We only have a limited number of binoculars so it will be first come first serve. All of these programs are free and open to the public.

Wings Over Lake Erie |  Woodcock Walk

Wed. Mar 18, 7:30 -8:30 p.m. Join Naturalist Mike for a guided Woodcock Walk, where you’ll experience the unique courtship display of the American Woodcock. We will watch and listen for this reclusive species as we walk the meadows and prairie edges they inhabit. Registration required. Limit 20. All Ages. Thu. Apr. 9, 8:30-10:00 a.m. Join Naturalist Mike for Birds & Coffee, a relaxing morning of birdwatching and conversation over a warm cup of coffee or another hot beverage. Mr. Smith’s Coffee House will be providing the java! Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just curious about the outdoors, no prior birding or coffee experience needed-just bring your love of nature. Wings Over Lake Erie, Bird Banding Demo, Stop #10

Thu, May 14, 7-10 a.m. Join Winous Point Marsh Conservancy’s Gabi Lindsey for a bird banding demonstration. Birds will be captured in mist nets, measured and banded, and safely released. This is a great opportunity to get an up-close look at birds and learn about local conservation efforts. Walk ups welcomed, no registration required. You may arrive at any point during the program time. Park in the front parking lot and a naturalist will be there to walk back to the banding station. If you arrive after 8 a.m. follow the signs to the banding station. The Community Foundation Preserve at Eagle Point, 3819 Cleveland Rd., Sandusky.
