About us

Welcome to the Equality Michigan Action Network, the non-partisan political advocacy voice for Michigan’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) community. Equality Michigan Action Network has been Michigan’s premiere political advocacy organization serving the LGBTQ+ community for over 25 years and counting.

Equality Michigan Action Network engages, educates, and moves political leaders and voters to take action on the issues that matter most to LGBTQ+ Michiganders. We provide policy expertise, political acumen, and broad-based relationships across the political spectrum to propel our mission: To achieve full equality and respect for all Michigan residents regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Transforming lives together

At Equality Michigan we help to fund the amazing work that goes on in the six hospitals of Barts Health NHS Trust and its associated medical school. Because we are independent of the Trust, we are able to support innovative projects that wouldn’t normally be funded through the NHS. Best of all, 100% of the donated funds go to the chosen cause.

Impact Report

Equality Michigan Action Network’s 2025 Impact Report highlights our ongoing commitment to political advocacy for Michigan’s LGBTQ+ community. The report features key statistics about our work and takes a deeper dive into our programs. None of this would be possible without the hard work and commitment from our staff, volunteers, and supporters.

AMBER OLDS

Director of Movement Building

aolds@equalitymi.org

Amber Moe-Olds is a native of West Michigan who has worked in the political arena for nearly 15 years. A community organizer at heart, it was her passion for affordable healthcare and marriage equality which led her to start organizing with the Obama Campaign as a teenager in her rural hometown. Since then she’s worked on federal, municipal, and state legislative campaigns across the state of Michigan and as far as North Carolina.

Most recently she has served as legislative staff in the Michigan Legislature – working for members in both the House and Senate to help pass pivotal pieces of legislation. This includes working with State Representative Jason Hoskins on his legislation which amended the Elliott Larsen Civil Rights act to include sexual orientation and gender identity. As well as a legislation which bans the harmful and abusive practice of conversion therapy on LGBTQ+ youth in Michigan – all of which were signed into law by Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2023. Amber also has a background in nonprofit administration and currently serves as the board secretary of a local nonprofit.

From chili cookoffs to community clean-ups, Amber loves volunteering in the Lansing area that she’s called home for nearly ten years. A proud, self-proclaimed “nerd” — you can find Amber and her husband Nick playing Dungeons and Dragons, watching anime, or going to comic book conventions in her free time.
