Canon Point: Shortly after capturing Quorra

Setting:
The Grid. A world inside of computer systems that most people never would have imagined. Where Programs are people, and everyone is covered in glowing circuits. A place with dangerous gladiatorial games fought to the death. One that was only discovered because a programmer named Kevin Flynn was kidnapped into it by the Master Control Program. Once inside, Flynn had the opportunity to meet a number of programs, including one named Tron, created by a programmer named Alan Bradley. Together, with help from Alan on the outside, they managed to take the MCP down and free the system.

After this, Kevin Flynn worked to create a new Grid. Where all information was open and free. And to do this, he brought Tron from the original grid, as well as creating a new program named CLU to take care of the system during his absences. Together, they were working to build the perfect system. But one day, something came to change everything.

They were called the ISOs. Unlike the other, they were not created by a user. Instead, chance and conditions created something profound. Something more complex than Kevin ever imagined to find. They were to change everything. Flynn's gift to the world. But not everyone saw them as that. CLU looked at what Kevin saw as a miracle, and instead saw something entirely different. A flaw that needed to be eradicated from the system, and a user that was betraying what he saw as the idea of what they'd planned.

CLU decided to act. He gathered together his own loyal programs and organized a coup against Kevin Flynn. The Creator. Tron was thought to have been derezzed during the attack that began CLU's campaign against the user. From there, he went on to execute the Purge. The destruction of the flaws in the system Kevin was so enamoured with. The ISOs were almost completely wiped out, except for one. But at this point, Flynn not only had lost control of the system, he was trapped inside, away from his son. Away from the world. The portal into the Grid could only be opened from the outside, and it only stayed open for a short time.

Years later, something happened to change things. Sam, Flynn's son, was lured to the grid to reopen the portal. Something CLU had wanted for a chance to invade the user world. CLU needed Flynn's identity disc. The master key to the system and his ticket to taking an army out to conquer the user world. Sam had the misfortune of being picked up as a stray program shortly after arrival on the grid, and ended up forced into participating in Disc Wars. An attempt to escape put him up against Rinzler.

Rinzler was CLU's most loyal servant. One that had every reason to know that bleeding was the sign of a user. He was actually Tron, who had not been derezzed. Instead, he'd been captured and re-purposed into Rinzler. CLU's loyal enforcer. A servant that had no idea what he truly was. His memories of being Tron were blocked. There was only one visible clue of who he was. A T shaped marking at the base of his neck.

When Sam was identified as a user, he was taken before CLU. CLU decided to put him on the lightcycle grid in hopes of luring out Kevin, and got his wish. Sort of. Quorra, the last ISO and Flynn's "rescue" managed to get Sam out of there and take him to his father. Kevin explained that the reason he hadn't returned from the Grid years ago was that he'd been too slow to get to the portal before it closed again and that they only had a short time to reach it now.

Quorra sent Sam to a friend of hers in hopes that he would get Sam to the portal, but her friend had changed and instead betrayed them, managing to acquire Flynn's disk and hand it over to CLU in hopes of getting control of the city. From there, Rinzler was sent off the pursue the users as they fled to the portal. He managed to capture Quorra when she used herself as a distraction to try to give Sam and Kevin a chance to escape while he took her in front of CLU.

Personality:
Powerful. Lethal. CLU's personal enforcer and loyal minion.

These are just some of the things that one can say about Rinzler. But there's more to Rinzler than a mindless minion.

Rinzler was based around and has the core programming of Tron. As Tron, he was loyal to his friends, affectionate, and devoted to the cause of the users to the point that he would have willingly sacrificed himself to save them. He rebelled in the old system against the MCP on behalf of the users, and managed to take it down. He was even willing to be brought over into the new system to help Flynn build a perfect system. In fact, when CLU turned on Kevin Flynn, declaring him corrupted for his obsession with the ISOs, Tron sacrificed himself to give Flynn a chance to escape. Or at least, it was what was supposed to have happened. Indeed, it would have probably been kinder than the hard truth of what happened to Tron.

CLU instead took the basic material of Tron and re-purposed into something better. Into what he saw as perfection. He already had the features that CLU needed. They just needed refined and redirected.

Rinzler is something so different from Tron that it too the small marking that CLU had left intact for Kevin Flynn to realize who he really was. His loyalty to the users and his friends has been overridden and altered. Now, his loyalty is to CLU. Nothing more, nothing less. He is CLU's most loyal servant. Anything that CLU needs done, all he needs to do is ask it of Rinzler. Anything he chooses to do to Rinzler, it will not be questioned. He is CLU's servant. There is no hesitation. No questioning. Just perfect, flawless obedience. He still has some independence of mind and flexibility left to him, because a completely mindless drone would be worthless. He can make some judgement calls regarding his orders. But overall, he gets things done.

He is also a competent and extremely lethal participant in the Grid Games. He shows no mercy with his opponents, derezzing with little hesitation. He is an absolutely brutal opponent to the point where the Disc Wars competitions with him as the final round might as well just be a death sentence. No one is going to get out of it alive, between his capabilities and unique combat style and the way that things are basically rigged in his favor.

Rinzler is clever enough to put things together though, such as the detail of Sam Flynn bleeding from the injury that he took in their match, and while he would have finished the match in spite of this, he has enough curiosity and presence of mind to realize an anomaly like an unknown user on the Grid needed to be known to CLU.

And one of the biggest changes? He speaks rarely now. Mostly, he makes an odd rumbling noise. He can speak, but for some reason or another, it's usually limited to raspy statements of no more than a few words at a time.

Abilities, Weaknesses, and Power Limitation Suggestions:
Rinzler is a highly skilled combatant, capable of fighting with two identity discs. Something extremely unusual, and pretty much unique to him on the grid. He's also agile and capable of some fairly impressive acrobatic feats. He's also quite adaptable, as can be seen from the way he handle the changing gravity in Disc Wars when he's fighting Sam Flynn. He's also quite effective with both lightcycles and lightjets.

As for weaknesses? Well, he's been heavily re-purposed for loyalty to CLU. Without the guidance and instructions, he's more than a little confused and lost. He needs some kind of orders to guide him. Basically, he needs a leader of some kind as he is. He lacks a lot of initiative. He'll do variations on orders, but he needs something to push him a lot of the time.

Inventory:
- The usual grid attire
- Two identity discs
- Two batons

Appearance: Rinzler is a black armored program with orange circuitry and a helmet that conceals his face. There's a very distinct T shaped marking in the circuits located at the base of Rinzler's throat from when he was Tron. Without the helmet, he'd look like a younger version of Alan Bradley, as most programs made on the old Grid looked like their users.
Age: Kind of awkward to work out with programs, but in years, he'd be 27 or 28.

OC/AU Justification ;
If AU, How is Your Version Different From Canon, and How Will That Come Across?
This is a relatively minor AU, and at least half of the reasoning is OOC considerations rather than IC ones. A straight canon version of Rinzler would be repairable into Tron, and that's not who I really want to play. If I wanted to app Tron, I'd app him into another game. Instead, I'm pulling him from a point in time early enough in canon that he predates when he started to get the flashbacks of who he was, with both his discs.

As an added precaution, I'm putting in a specific note that in this AU, the damage done by CLU's re-purposing of Tron was bad enough that, while it might be possible to restore some of the damage or memories, he cannot be completely restored to his status.
If OC, Did You Run Your Character Through a Mary-Sue Litmus Test? N/A
And What Did You Score? N/A

Samples ;
Log Sample:
The games. Again with the games. Disc wars this time. Rinzler would be pacing impatiently if he could, but it wouldn't do to show his feelings quite so... Visibly. All there is for him to do for now is watch and wait. Not his favorite way to spend his time by any means. And it's not like he ever gets anything unusual or a real challenge to make thing interesting. Just destroying the same kind of foolish programs that manage to survive to the final round. To meet their execution at his hands. There's no hope for them, even if they might think otherwise. They may as well die to those other combatants.

Rinzler knows what he really is. CLU's executioner. Clu's perfect enforcer. No one exists that can beat him. CLU made him that way.

This time, however... The games already are going different. He almost didn't notice the one program. Unit the program decided to try to escape. His only possible moves would lead straight to the final round. Straight to where he's waiting. He hears the announcement, rumbling as he eyes the foolish program that had jumped to his own execution at Rinzler's hands.... There's something off about the program, but it doesn't matter. He's going to make it a moot point soon enough, drawing his discs.

Network Sample:
[There's a soft rumbling noise as the device turns on, audio only, uneasy and uncertain of the sudden and drastic change in his surroundings. Rinzler does no like this. Not at all. This is not the Grid. This is something strange. All these items strewn about where he arrived. And the brightness is getting to him a bit.

He continues fiddling with the device and finally turns the video on, not that he really knows what he's doing. The camera shows a close view of his helmet as he examines the device. the rumbling gets louder as the prodding fails to give answers. Nor did the tour guide give him satisfactory answers to his questions. He is unhappy. How can he live up to CLU's orders here?]
