Celebrate the Internet’s Birthday

On October 29, 1969, a handful of dedicated civil servants at what was then called ARPA—now DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) —sent the very first digital message from a computer at UCLA to one at Stanford University. Only a few characters appeared on the screen before the system crashed, but that brief moment marked the birth of the Internet.
