Summer in Terai

Summer Season falls between the month of Baishak and Bhadra in terai of Nepal. Summer basically is the season of hotness and burning sun. Summer Season makes us realize the importance of swimming pool. I just hate summer season. It makes me feel like leaving terai and settling in hills.
During Summer Season, our school starts early in the morning. At day time, there is so much hot so our school gets over around 11:30 am so that we can take a nap inside our house during day time. Our body gets sweaty and bad odor comes from our body. I use so many kinds of body sprays but none works in the scorching summer of terai. After our first term examination, we get a full one month summer vacation. We mostly go to hill stations near us like: Godawari, Budhitola etc to feel free from summer during our vacation. Summer Season in terai is so dangerous because we are prone to diseases like Malaria, Dengue etc. We should drink sufficient water to be healthy and fit during summer season.
Summer season is worst season according to me. Whenever, I try to read book during summer, my books get all wet due to continuous pouring of sweat from my forehead. So, I suggest all my friends outside terai to never come here during summer. It is because if you come here during summer, you will have the worst experience and you will never think of coming here again.

My Experience of the Access Camp-2017

I felt very happy to hear about the Access Intensive Youth Leadership Camp-2017. We all friends were so excited at that moment. We got the chance to visit the wonderful Pokhara. All of my friends were so happy to get such opportunity.

Access Intensive Youth Leadership Camp was very interesting. We all three Access centres’ students were very happy and we enjoyed all the sessions of the camp. We got chance to visit the Davis fall, Gupteshwor cave, Phewa Lake and the international mountain museum. All the things and facilities of the hotel were new to us. The food that we ate was delicious and tasty. We ate different types of food having different taste.

I still don’t know how fast the days went. We knew many things from the camp. There were lots of activities with lots of fun. We made new friends there and also shared our experience while being in ACCESS.

Although the camp is over, the things and activities that we did are still fresh in my memory. It was really an enjoyable time.

My Feelings about Access

I am a student at Access center Surkhet. I find myself very lucky to be an Access student. In the beginning, I felt very nervous and hesitated to talk with others to express myself. But these days, my shyness has vanished and I am comfortable to communicate with each other and express my feelings without any fear.

I knew what it is meant to be a student in a real sense. I have learnt many things from my Access class. We learn English with a great fun, in realistic and entertaining way.  After   I joined Access, my English has improved a lot. The use of internet and other Audio- visual aids has improved my English language and communicative skills, too. I have also gained knowledge of different aspects of US culture and religious activities that help maintain harmony among people.

What I like the most about this program is its focus on learning by giving more priority to the learners. We are motivated to learn because Access teachers are so familiar and friendly, co-operative and caring. I would like to thank the US Embassy and NELTA for providing us such a wonderful opportunity.

My Experience as a MOOC Participant

On April 16, 2017, I started my online course at edX website. This course was about computer science. The course link was sent by our teacher Mandira Adhikari through email. In that email, she wrote some information and website link about the course. I followed the instruction as written in the email. First, I went to that link.  To start course, we must first register. So, I put my personal details and information in the registration page and email verification link was sent to my email address. After email verification, my course was open for learning. It was about computer science. I learned basic of computer science, computer parts, its hardware and software. In the online course, I had to read some articles, watch videos and answer questions on tests. At the end of the course, I got 65% on the progress report and I received e-certificate for course completion. It took me 4 days to complete the course. I was very happy when I got certificate. Then I immediately sent my certificate to my teacher Mandira Adhikari. She became very happy and encouraged me to do another course.

It was a happy moment for me receiving e-certificate of online course from my instructors

That’s my experience of online course. I know how to do it on my own now, I can search for courses of my interest and learn new things every day. Thanks to my Access instructors for teaching me about online courses.

Access: Combination of Learning and Fun

In teenage, most of us want to have fun, to enjoy with friends and to do what we are interested in. We normally think that our age is the best time to have fun and enjoy with friends. But our elders say,” Your age is an age of learning. You will not get this chance later on so, study instead of enjoying with your friends.” Then we get confused, whether our age is to learn or to have fun. I think fun and learning are both important parts of student life. In fact, Access program has created an environment for both learning and having fun, we learn as well as we have fun in Access class. That is the reason, why Access is special learning spot for all of us.

It was wonderful getting prize of best narrator in Drama during Access Camp-2016

In Access, we never feel bored because we do not have a number of course books here. We interact with each other in English Language. Normally, we have group work and we lead our own group which helps us to act like a leader. For boosting up our English Language skill, we watch English movies; sing songs and sometimes we play games, too. Access has organized Reader’s club where we deeply discuss about the book contents. Reader’s club helps to us to read more books with clear comprehension. Another best part of Access class is that we got a chance to meet and talk with different American people. Last time, we met Grabiel Spector who taught us about ‘Graffiti’. Apart from this, we celebrated and enjoyed different American and Nepali festivals with a lot of fun. What we learnt from this celebration is cultural tolerance. Engagement in various activities provided us a lot of fun and excitement while learning.
There is no doubt that Access class helped us in our regular school activities as well. Access helped us secure good marks, to lead all classroom activities and to speak with full confidence. Most importantly, we learnt English Language, cultural adaptability and American culture. We, students from community schools, cannot easily afford these expenses for learning. But Access provided it for free so I am really thankful to US Embassy and NELTA for providing this special opportunity.

VIP Guest at Lalitpur Access

It’s been a year since I joined Access. We have been visited by a number of national and international guests at different times. I was most excited when we heard that one of the VIP guest is coming to our Center and we could have a face to face interaction with that guest. Her name was Evan Ryan from Washington DC. I got the golden opportunity to present a token of love from our Center to her.

It was wonderful having a face to face interaction with Evan Ryan

On that day our discussion theme was on International Girls’ Day and Elimination of Violation against Women. In presence of her, we discussed about the condition of women violence in Nepal and USA. After having an hour discussion and interaction, I was really inspired with her pleasant personality and devotion of work for mankind and nation. I think it was the most exciting class I ever had till now. I would like to request US Embassy and NELTA to bring such personalities in our class for motivation and encouragement.

Teacher

To make our future bright,

To bring back the flame of light,

Teachers work very hard,

All day and night,

They never feel tired,

For this they must be admired,

They work in school and college,

They are the source of knowledge.

Teachers are our god,

They teach us not to be fraud,

They guide us throughout our life,

To sharpen our mind like a knife,

Teachers show us the path,

To walk or run is upon us,

They wish for our success,

Our success or failure depends on us.

My Experience of “No acting please” Workshop

Five students from Lalitpur Access Center were selected for the ‘No acting please’ workshop. I am among the lucky five. The workshop was three days long from August 5 to 7, 2016. It was conducted by Nepali actress Richa Sharma. There were many sessions based on acting and we were trained by different experts. There were many participants at the workshop, some of them were engineers, teachers, etc. but we were the youngest ones. The environment was very good. Not only we attended the sessions, we were involved in many practical classes and also played different games. We were provided delicious snacks and lunch. From the workshop, we learnt the theories of acting and the ways of acting. Though, the time was limited, but we learnt many things in those three days. Not only that, we got certificates from the hands of Nepali actress Rekha Thapa and Public Affairs Officer US Embassy Tristram Perry. Besides them, we also got a chance to meet other personalities like Anup Baral, Gauri Malla and Sunil Thapa.

It was a great experience learning new things with different people in new environment.  Having sessions by different personalities in different ways was very interesting as well as joyful. It was my first experience in such a wonderful workshop. This opportunity was provided by U.S Embassy. So, I would like to heartily thank US Embassy for providing me and my friends such a golden and memorable opportunity.

I would also like to thank my Access instructors for supporting and encouraging me in every situation.

Three Days with Celebrity

I don’t know what acting means for others, but for me acting is a field, not job opportunity. I will be involved in this field to show what I can do. I am happy that I got the great opportunity to participate in the three days’ workshop based on acting which helped me realize my goal.

My three days with Nepalese celebrities was different and unique than other days. I was fortunate to meet Richa Sharma, Karma Shakya, Rekha Thapa, Nischal Basnet, Gauri Malla, Khagendra Lamichane and the CEO of Mega Bank Anil Keshari Singh.

In those three days, I learned the true meaning of actor and acting. I realized that acting is a creation and actor is a protagonist of that creation. I now know that actor is more a liberator than an entertainer. I found out that actors in any capacity are inspired by their curiosity and by their desire to explore all quarters of life in light and dark, reflect what they find through their works.

Before the workshop, I used to think that I had no talent for acting and I didn’t even bother to explore as I thought I won’t get any opportunity. But now I am confident that I will reach my goal. I will do my best to make my dream come true.

My Experience of Access

When I heard that I was successful in written and interview test to be an Access student, I felt very proud and happy. After being selected in this program, we had some interval of time before starting the Access class. So, I thought most of the time about the Access, “what are we going to do in this Access class? Is it different from our regular class or not?” These types of questions were playing in my mind. But, when our Access class started, I was surprised a lot. It was an amazing class.

There is vast difference between the Access class and our regular class. I enjoy this class fully and I am happy to be an Access student. From this class I have learned the importance of politeness, self-discipline and community work. Every day, when I come in Access, I learn new things about many sectors. In Access we have a child friendly environment. So, I can share my experience, knowledge, ideas and thoughts without any hesitation. From Access I can gain different types of knowledge and improve my English language as well. In class we do tasks in pairs. So, it makes us easier to learn about new things. Here, I have got a chance to learn through the different types of technology. It makes me understand the topic easily.

Our Access teachers are like our friends. They facilitate us like friends. They help us in any need. After joining in Access, I have also developed different kinds of skills. I am confident that Access will lead me to a bright future.

Thank You!

Reflection of Community Service

On September 3, 2016, Lalitpur Access organized a ‘Blood Donation Program’ as a community service. There were warm presence of NELTA President Ms. Meera Shrestha, RELO Mr. Russell Barczyk, NELTA General Secretary Mr. Ishwor Adhikari, Secretary Mr. Kunjarmani Gautam,  NELTA Lalitpur Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and executives, Access Coordinators, Access teachers  from Lalitpur as well as Access Alumni.  Nepal Red Cross Society was also there to support the program. The main motto of the program was ‘Donate Blood Save Life’.

All Access students were there for volunteering. We were divided into five groups. One group was given responsibility to stay at the spot to serve the donors while other groups were scattered in different corners to request the pedestrians for blood donation. All the students seemed very responsible at their work. I am very proud to say that our friends were successful to make so many people want to donate blood; approximately about 32 people donated blood that day.

I am sure that many people will be benefited because of our program. We are very happy and fully satisfied from the program as we got a golden opportunity to serve the people of our community learning that real happiness comes from serving others. Since we have joined Access, our life has changed as we are capable of thinking and doing social service which we hadn’t thought of and really didn’t do. All the credit goes to US embassy and Access program for this amazing platform to serve other and bring positive change in the society.

My Camp Experience

On February 8, 2016, we all Access students from Pokhara and Kanchanpur gathered in Dhulikhel and stayed at Hotel Arniko.

We all Access students and instructors were divided into eight mountain groups. Our teachers gave us identity cards. The ID cards had our name and mountain group we belonged to. We all worked in a group for all day when we were at the camp. During the camp, we learned many things such as personal hygiene, zero waste, drama, singing, dancing, station learning, harmony, leadership, personality development, upcycling, American Culture, Child Rights etc. We also had yoga class.

The camp was very interesting and exciting. When I reached there I felt very excited and glad. I was really surprised to see many students, friends and many other respected people from American Embassy, Kathmandu. We all Access family were gathered in a big hall for the opening ceremony. When I entered the program hall, I felt very shy. I didn’t know how to speak in front of many people. But our instructors encouraged me. Then I started feeling comfortable and confident. I was very happy to meet many friends from Kanchanpur. We went to Namobuddha, Bhaktapur Darbar Square and Sanga Mahadev with our instructors and friends. We got a lot of information from those places. Those trips were so interesting and much fun.

I am very lucky to get such a platform like Access. I want to thank NELTA and US Embassy who organized such a beautiful program. Thank you all for giving such opportunity to the students like us. I also want to thank the instructors for taking care of us for a whole week. I can never forget my time in Access winter camp, Dhulikhel.

Access Classes are different from our regular classes in various ways such as in our schools teachers teach in traditional ways which makes us bored in learning English but in Access Classes we learn English with so much fun. When I am in Access classes, I forget my personal problems and the time passes very freely. I want to spend more time in Access classes. There are many facilities in our Access classes. I never feel tired and bored in Access classes because my teachers always make me busy in different fun activities from which I learn English.

Roma Basnet, Lalitpur
For me Access is a resource center which helps me to develop My English proficiency. Access Classes organize many different activities like writing stories, working in a group, cleaning surroundings, watching movie, and learning English songs. In regular classes in the school we just learn from books.

I couldn’t talk in English before but now I can talk fluently. I have increased all four language skills. Today many people know me as Access student. Had I not got chance to be enrolled in this program, I would not have achieved the remarkable changes and success in my study. I am grateful to NELTA and US Embassy for this wonderful opportunity.

I was quite shy before. It had become the hindrance in my study but Access has made me extrovert and expressive. I can speak in front of the whole class now. Not only that I can dance and sing. I have become confident which has positive impact in my study and personality development.

You
  – Anash Khan
Willing to search you

But I don’t find you

Willing to see you

But I can’t see you

When I was willing to feel your sense

Willing to fulfill your desires

But I can’t

Because you want me to follow you

But I want to lead you in my reality

Through a path to the destiny

That’s why I can’t

Feel, hear, search, touch, and remember you

Because when I was there

But

You were not there

And when you were there,

I was not there……………….

About Life
   – Shabana Khatun
Life is a four letter word

Short in sounding, but hard

To live in reality

Life is full of sorrows and grief

It’s a way of up and down

Life is a dream but has to succeed

Life is a journey

That travels till it ends

It’s a wonderful chance

Hurry up! Fulfill your dream

And demand

Let’s Do Brother
– Rabindra Nepal
Martyrs are the sons of our old mother

So let’s show some respect brothers

Mother is in trouble, Oh! My honey

Please brothers don’t run after money

Love the country and do honor to martyrs

Don’t show the discrimination and partiality

Grow the feelings of patriotic humanity

Never fall in the pond of dishonorable prosperity

From this small poem what can I say

There is huge debt for us to pay

Debt of the country and debt of the mother

Just time to think about the development further

Sow the seeds of rose in the heart

Blow the balloons of happiness from hut

We are no rich either

But love for the country is warmer than fiber

Fashion
– Sabita Khadka

What to say about fashion

This is created by new generation

Which gives every parents irritation

Why does everybody like fashion

Every boy and girl is running towards fashion

It makes their parents irritation

No one cares about their tradition

They always break rules of regulations

Always spending money in fashion

Parents don’t have time for only calculation

Now it is time to find its solution

Otherwise it will create big irritation

We have to think about the country protection

It will help to get country’s new transformation

Not to run after fashion

First think about your ambition

This is all about what is fashion

Patriotism
– Prayag Raj Upadhyay

Patriotism is a strong feeling of nationality

It supports in development of a country

Our country is our mother

We must respect our mother

We should respect our country too

Patriotism promotes nationality

Among the people too.

People with patriotic feeling

Who love their country

They want to develop their country

It’s the important factor for the society

Who don’t have patriotic feeling

They never show interest in the country

They just run after money

They are guided by their self-interest

Patriotism is an important factor for nation

It can settle any dispute among the people

We should love our country more than our life

And stand against vulture’s soul rivals

Peace
– Avishek Silwal
There is no place left

Where I search you

Because,

I searched you in gorge of hills

Streams, canopy of dense clouds

Even in the Mt. Sagarmatha

And beneath a river’s shadow

Yes,

I searched you in God’s eyes

I searched you in the clear blue skiesjj

Where I find pigeons

pigeons roaming with the vulture’s soul

once I searched in deep black sea

to get sensation of peace

But,

I find it as burning of fire

Yes, I searched you in horizon

In the point of zenith

And even in the mystery of kingdom

I asked to heaven’s God about peace

But they didn’t answer me

Now,

I recognize that

The world is not for you

This is for evil……

My teachers
– Shagufta Mahmood
I love my teachers very much

They are not only interesting teachers

Not only do they explain our lessons well

They also teach us to behave well

It is the duty of every teacher to teach

But what makes one stand out among many

Is the quality of knowledge they import

And how the students imbibe those lessons

I have studied under many teachers

But one has caught my imagination

They are not only good teachers in the class

Their teaching is an inspiration that you can’t miss

This is my earnest prayer that my teachers may

Ever prosper in life

And be to many a beacon of light

To give chance to the students successful flight

I will miss my teachers
– Binita Bhattarai

I will miss my teachers

Because they are my future

I will miss my friends of Access

Because they were my trends of success

I will miss my Access class days

Because they are my beautiful rays

I will miss my teachers terribly

Because they ignored my every mistake safely

I can’t explain the love for my teachers really

My Experience in Access
– Sabbu Banu

Before joining Access, I used to feel hesitation to talk in English with my teachers and even with my friends in school and at English Access class. I was not able to speak a single word because my English was not so good. But I think that after joining this Access Program, I have gained a lot of confidence to talk in English with anyone. I have built my leadership skill. And this Access has helped me to achieve my goal for future.

This Access gave me opportunities to know about Western culture, esp. about American culture and celebrations. I have celebrated many festivals with my teachers and students like Thanksgiving day, Christmas day, Independence day, Teej, Id etc. From Access, we got wonderful opportunity to participate in a week-long Spring leadership camp where we met many friends from Gorkha and Bhairahawa. We played various games, attended sessions on Yoga for meditation, volunteering in the community for leadership skills. I enjoyed a lot at English Access class for two years. Thus, I will never forget my teachers, friends, and my classroom in my life time.

Finally, I would like to thank the US Embassy, NELTA for giving me opportunity to be in the Access Program. I feel proud to be the student of Access class because it’s my favorite class where I ever met such wonderful teachers and friends.

 HEART on EARTH

Once upon a time there was a holy person who used to live by a big river. One day when he was going to the Shiva’s temple, he saw an scorpion was kept away by the river. He went to save, but scorpion stung holy person’s on his fingers while he was saving.

Every time scorpion stung him, but he kept on trying to save it from river. At last he was able to save bearing much pain.

Villagers asked why he had saved an evil creature that was stinging him all the time. Then the holy person replied,”If the scorpion cannot give up its nature, why should I ?” Hearing this villagers went away.

As the light of sun glows

Like the flower of rose

And the swift wind blows

In the form of melting white snow

The path made by the rivers

That it will know

And a lot of memories

And a future dreams

That we may not deserve

But we may try to know

As they say river has own destinations

It goes across the hill, high lands

Crossing even mountains

To meet its destiny to the blue sea

Always there the river will be

Thinking about this all

And about me

Looking at the foggy street

I see the shadow of unseen

Which leads me

Unknowingly I’m following it

To reach my destiny

As it saves me from thorns, pains

And help me in every distress

Makes me happy

When wandering through the path of sadness

Shows glimpse smile on its face

Makes me feel aware

I found to whom I can trust

I found that thinks similar to me

And makes all the things of mine

As it deserves more than me

Making help, support and effort

Slaughtering all the painful sorrows

By the mighty swords and knife

Brings joys in my life
