Meet Project Sheldon, a 2012 IMLS Sparks! Ignition Grant-funded app combining event planning, participant feedback, and social media in an accessible way to engage libraries more deeply with their communities. Sheldon was created by the Engaging Ones, a team of Illinois librarians who will guide you through the collaborative process of designing and maintaining Sheldon, offering tips and examples for both participating in the project’s development and adapting it to meet the needs of your library.

These days there’s an app for anything and everything: plan a fitness routine? There’s an app for that! Walk your dog? There’s an app for that! Promote hair growth? Yes, there’s even an app for that, too! There are so many apps to choose from, what’s a library to do? This presentation will introduce participants to a wide variety of helpful, informative, and sometimes silly, free and freemium apps that can aid with productivity and creativity for libraries and library workers, provide guidance in creating app discovery programs for patrons, and introduce resources for discovering the next, best app and avoiding the ones that are clearly “app to no good.

This program will introduce participants to free and freemium apps that they can use to engage their communities, increase their productivity, collaborate and save money for their library. Presenters will explore 10-15 apps , discuss their usefulness from a library standpoint, and provide information on how to find out more about the apps being discussed as well as provide further resources for finding other useful apps.
