Web Forwarding lets you redirect visitors from your domain to any other website address. For example, you could point example.com to your Facebook page, another website you own, or any other URL.
Before you can set up web forwarding, your domain's DNS records must be pointing to our servers. This guide walks you through the full process.
Step 1 - Update Your DNS Records
Web forwarding only works when your domain's DNS A records point to our redirect server. If your domain is registered and hosted with us, this may already be set up. If you manage your DNS elsewhere (for example, through a third-party registrar or Cloudflare), you will need to update the records yourself.
You need to set the following A records:
- The root domain (e.g.
example.com) must have an A record pointing to our server IP address. - The www subdomain (e.g.
www.example.com) must also have an A record pointing to the same IP address.
You can find the exact IP address to use on the Web Forwarding page in your client area - it is shown in the DNS Status section.
Note: DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to fully propagate across the internet. In most cases it is much faster, but please allow time before contacting support.
Step 2 - Open the Web Forwarding Page
- Log in to your client area.
- Navigate to Domains and select the domain you want to forward.
- From the domain details page, click Web Forwarding.
Step 3 - Check Your DNS Status
At the top of the Web Forwarding page you will see a DNS Status indicator. This tells you whether your domain is correctly pointing to our server:
- DNS Points to [IP address] - Your DNS is set up correctly. You can proceed to configure your redirect.
- DNS Propagating - Your DNS records have been updated but the changes have not yet spread across the internet. Please check back in a few hours.
- DNS Not Pointing to [IP address] - Your A records are not set correctly. Review Step 1 above and update your DNS settings.
The form to configure your redirect will be greyed out and unavailable until your DNS is confirmed as correct.
Step 4 - Configure Your Redirect
Once your DNS status shows as confirmed, you can set up the redirect.
Target URL
Enter the full web address that visitors should be sent to. This must include http:// or https:// at the start. For example:
https://example.comhttps://www.example.com/your-page
Redirect Type
Choose how the redirect should work:
- 301 - Permanent Redirect
Use this when the redirect is long-term or permanent. Search engines will update their records and pass on SEO value to the destination. This is the recommended option in most cases. - 302 - Temporary Redirect
Use this if the redirect is short-term and may change in the future. Search engines will continue to index your original domain rather than the destination.
Click Set Redirect to save. You should see a confirmation message if it is saved successfully.
Updating an Existing Redirect
If you have already set up a redirect and want to change the destination or redirect type, simply enter the new details in the form and click Update Redirect. The previous redirect will be replaced immediately.
Removing a Redirect
If you want to stop forwarding your domain, click the Remove Redirect button on the Web Forwarding page. You will be asked to confirm before the redirect is deleted.
Once removed, visitors to your domain will no longer be forwarded automatically. Please note that browsers and search engines may cache redirects for a period of time, so it can take a little while for the removal to take full effect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will web forwarding affect my email?
Web forwarding only affects how web browsers handle traffic to your domain. It does not change your MX records or affect email delivery, provided those records are set up separately and correctly.
Can I forward to an http:// address?
Yes, both http:// and https:// destination URLs are supported. However, we recommend using https:// destinations where possible for security reasons.
Why is my redirect form greyed out?
The form is only available when your domain's DNS A records are confirmed as pointing to our server. Check the DNS Status section and follow the instructions in Step 1 if needed.
I updated my DNS but the status still shows as incorrect. What should I do?
DNS propagation can take time. Wait a few hours and then refresh the Web Forwarding page. If after 48 hours the status is still showing as incorrect, please contact our support team with a screenshot of the page and we will investigate.
Which redirect type should I choose?
If you are not sure, choose 301 - Permanent. This is the right choice for the vast majority of web forwarding setups and is better for search engine optimisation.
