How to Automatically Set Up Email on iPhone (iOS Profile)

Instead of manually typing in server hostnames and port numbers, cPanel can generate a special "Configuration Profile" file. When you open this file on your iPhone or iPad, it automatically configures your email settings for you.

Note: You must complete these steps on the device you want to set up (e.g., open this guide and log in to cPanel using Safari on your iPhone).

Step 1: Download the Configuration Profile

  1. Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad and log in to your cPanel account.
  2. Scroll to the Email section and tap on Email Accounts.
  3. Find the email address you want to set up and tap the Connect Devices button next to it.
  4. Scroll down to the section labelled "Mail Client Automatic Configuration Scripts".
  5. Find the row for iOS for iPhone/iPad/iPod and MacOS® Mail.app®.
  6. Tap the link for IMAP over SSL/TLS (this is the secure, recommended option).
  7. A popup will ask if you want to allow the download. Tap Allow.
  8. Once finished, a popup will say "Profile Downloaded". Tap Close.

Step 2: Install the Profile in Settings

Important: In modern versions of iOS, the profile does not install automatically. You must manually approve it.

  1. Go to your iPhone's Settings app.
  2. You should see a new option near the top called Profile Downloaded. Tap this.
    • If you don't see this, go to General > VPN & Device Management (or "Profiles") to find it.
  3. Tap Install in the top-right corner.
  4. Enter your iPhone's passcode (the code you use to unlock your screen).
  5. A warning page will appear (this is standard for custom mail profiles). Tap Install again.
  6. Finally, you will be prompted to enter your Email Password. Enter the password for the email account you are setting up and tap Next.
  7. Tap Done.

Step 3: Check Your Mail

Open the Mail app. Your new account should now be listed and will start downloading your emails automatically.
