Why You’re Seeing This Page: Default SSL Certificate Explained

If you've landed on this page, you were trying to visit a website hosted on our servers, but instead of reaching the intended site, you've encountered what's known as the Default SSL Certificate.

What Does This Mean?

This usually happens when:

  • The domain you're trying to visit doesn't have a valid SSL certificate installed.
  • The domain is pointing to the server, but the hosting is not fully set up or is misconfigured.
  • The server is serving the default SSL certificate, which is a fallback used when it doesn't know which website should respond.

In simple terms: the server received your request but wasn't sure which website to show you securely, so it defaulted to a generic SSL Certificate.

Common Causes

Here are the most common reasons this may happen:

  1. Missing or expired SSL certificate
The domain doesn't currently have a valid SSL certificate assigned.
  2. DNS settings pointing to the wrong place
Your domain's DNS may be pointing to the server, but the website isn't properly configured to match.
  3. SSL not enabled for the domain
The domain may exist in cPanel, but SSL hasn't been installed or activated.
  4. Recently added domain or subdomain
If your domain was added to cPanel recently, AutoSSL may not have completed yet.

How to Troubleshoot

If you're the site owner, here are a few things you can check:

  1. Confirm your domain is added in cPanel
Make sure the domain or subdomain is properly added to your cPanel account.

  2. Check SSL Status
Log into cPanel and go to SSL/TLS Status. Ensure AutoSSL is installed and marked as successful. If not, click Run AutoSSL to retry.

  3. Clear your cache
Sometimes your browser or DNS resolver may cache the wrong version of the site. Try clearing your cache or using a private/incognito window.

  4. Wait a few minutes
If you've only just added the domain or changed DNS, it may take some time for DNS propagation and SSL installation to complete.
