What Happens When My Domain Expires?

When your domain registration expires, the renewal options depend on how much time has passed since expiration. Below is an outline of what happens when your domain reaches its expiration date and how you can recover it.

Expiration Timeline

  • 45 and 7 Days Before Expiration: We will send an upcoming domain renewal notification to remind you of the impending expiration.
  • 30 Days Before Expiration: We will send the domain renewal invoice to ensure you have ample time to renew your domain.
  • On the Day before Expiration: If auto-renewal is enabled, we attempt to renew your domain automatically. If not, you can manually renew it at the standard renewal price.
  • on the Days After Expiration: Your domain remains in your account and enters the renewal grace period, and you can still renew it at the standard renewal price for the next 30 days. However, any associated website or email may stop functioning.
  • 30 Days After Expiration: The domain enters a redemption period, where you can recover it, usually with a fee.
  • 90 Days After Expiration: The domain leaves the redemption period and enters a "pending delete" status, making it unrecoverable. Once deleted, the domain becomes available for public registration, meaning anyone on the internet can purchase it.

Avoid Losing Your Domain

  • Enable Auto-Renewal: This ensures your domain renews automatically before expiration.
  • Renew Early: You can renew your domain at any time before the expiration date.
  • Keep Contact Details Updated: We send multiple email reminders before and after expiration, so make sure your contact email is up-to-date in your account.
