I am connecting to FTP via ftp.example.com which is not connecting?

Connecting to FTP using your domain name may cause issues if the domain’s name servers have just been updated or are not yet pointing to your hosting provider’s name servers. In such cases, your connection may fail or not reach the correct server.

  • To ensure a successful connection, use the IP address of your FTP server instead of the domain name.
  • You can find the FTP server’s IP address at the bottom of your hosting control panel, often labelled as “Server Information” or “FTP Details.”
  • If you are unsure where to locate this information, contact your hosting provider’s support team for assistance. They can provide you with the correct FTP server IP address and guide you through the connection process if needed.
  • When configuring your FTP client, ensure you are using the correct username and password as provided in your hosting account details. Double-check that you are connecting via port 21 (the default FTP port), unless your provider specifies otherwise.

Tip: Once your domain’s name servers have fully propagated (which can take up to 48 hours), you can use your domain name for FTP connections as usual. Until then, using the server’s IP address will help avoid connectivity issues.
