We're excited to announce the upcoming release of WordPress 6.6, scheduled for July 16, 2024. Building on the robust foundation of previous versions, this release introduces a range of enhancements and new features to further enhance your site-building capabilities.
The new Data Views in the Site Editor, which debuted in version 6.5, have been refined and enhanced. This includes new layout options and a combined template and pattern management experience, streamlining the workflow. A new side-by-side layout allows users to view a list of pages alongside a preview of the selected page, improving accessibility and efficiency.

The introduction of a zoomed-out view facilitates high-level design management, allowing users to shuffle and manipulate top-level patterns within templates. This enhancement aims to simplify the process of exploring alternative patterns and improving the user experience for dragging patterns.
WordPress 6.6 brings substantial improvements to design tools, including support for grid layouts, section styles, and more robust style variations. Users can now mix and match typography and colour palettes from different style variations, creating unique combinations effortlessly.

The new synced patterns feature supports overrides, ensuring consistent design while allowing customised content. Users can insert testimonial patterns across posts with uniform styling but unique content, maintaining the ability to update the design globally without affecting existing instances.
Following its introduction in version 6.5, the Font Library has been refined based on user feedback. This release focuses on improving the functionality and user experience of font management.
WordPress 6.6 introduces various performance improvements, particularly in loading times and caching. These enhancements include optimised template loading and ongoing improvements to the Interactivity API, ensuring a faster and more responsive site.
Several APIs introduced in recent releases receive significant upgrades. Enhancements to the Interactivity API, Block Hooks, and HTML API focus on improving developer experience and reliability.
WordPress 6.6 will discontinue support for PHP 7.0 and 7.1. The new minimum supported version is PHP 7.2.24, with PHP 7.4 or greater recommended.
To enhance site stability, WordPress 6.6 includes a rollback feature for auto-updates. This feature aims to prevent site disruptions caused by plugin update errors, offering an additional layer of security.
