Our matchmaker scheme links owners of empty properties with people looking to purchase an empty home. We know that trying to sell an empty home can be a daunting task, but our matchmaker scheme is designed to make the process easier for both buyers and sellers.
Alongside our detailed practical advice for owners and prospective buyers, the matchmaker scheme is there to make sure as many empty homes as possible are full again.
Bringing an empty home back into use can have a positive social, economic and environmental impact and, by buying one, you can help tackle Scotland’s housing emergency. When you see a property you’re interested in, fill out the enquiry form and the owner of the home will be notified of your interest. It’s then up to them whether they get back to you or not. When buying an empty property, there are some important things to consider:
- There are VAT regulations for doing renovation work on homes that have been empty for over 2 years that can save you money. For properties that have been empty for over 10 years you can save even more.
- If you buy an empty home and can prove you’re doing work to it, for at least 6 months you’ll be entitled to a discount on your council tax bill. This discount may be extended if your work continues and depending on your council’s approach.
- There are a number of building suppliers and service providers who will provide empty home owners with discounts.
For more information, visit our Buyer page, or contact us at [email protected] or on 0344 515 1941. The matchmaker scheme only seeks to match buyers and sellers of empty homes, we can’t provide any legal advice on the process of sale.
