HELPING GIRLS THRIVE

Since 2003, EmpowHer Institute has been the only gender-responsive organization in Los Angeles County that provides a social-emotional learning class in Title 1 schools that is fully integrated in the school day. We deliver our work through a social justice framework, aimed at examining the intersection between race and gender and equipping girls with the necessary skills and access to resources that will disrupt the systems that impede Black and Brown girls from reaching their fullest potential.

The mission of EmpowHer Institute is to empower girls and young women in marginalized communities by giving them the skills necessary through education, training, and mentorship to become confident, college, and career-ready.

We envision a world where every girl is provided the opportunities and resources she uniquely needs to: embrace the power of her voice; make informed decisions about her body and future; break generational cycles of poverty; contribute to the creation of an equitable society.

OUR IMPACT

EmpowHer is dedicated to serving girls, ages 11-18 years old, in underserved communities. We partner with Title I middle and high schools to deliver our programs to girls who need it the most. Since 2013, we’ve had tremendous success, including:

  • 100% of our middle school participants matriculate into high school
  • 100% of our high school girls graduate AND attend college
  • 100% of our girls report learning a new skill while in our program
  • 90% of our schools report a decline in school disciplinary actions among enrolled girls
  • 66% of youth participants major in a STEAM field in college.
