All About Me

I write poetryshort stories and flash fiction, and share other passions –photography, gardening, and my family tree too.

In 2022, I returned to a long-forgotten hobby – Cross-stitch embroidery, branching out into Blackwork as well. You can see how I got on by clicking on the Tab in the Menu.

I took early retirement from work in 2014 to study for a BA (Hons) degree in English and Creative Writing, graduating in 2017, and in 2022 I completed a Masters Degree in Creative Writing with the Open University. You can read about my experiences under the header tab Mature Student.

In 2018, I set myself the challenge of reading every Man Booker Prize Winner – one a month – in date order. I completed that challenge in February 2023 with the second of the 2019 joint winners. You can read about that challenge here.

I live in a tiny village halfway up a small mountain in North Wales, with my husband of more years than we are willing to admit to.  Occasionally, we are allowed out to visit other small villages and much bigger mountains.

Published Work

2020

I have three short stories published in Inky Quill Ramblings Volume 1: Wales an anthology produced by one of the writing groups I am involved with, and which is available on Amazon. My contributions are Black Dog (a mythical Welsh beast that fortells death), Gresford ( a fictionalised telling about a North Wales coal mining disaster in 1934), The Chinese Wallpaper and Letters from a Country Gentleman (fictional letters based on a resident of one of the small stately homes of North Wales).

Sloth, a short story, was runner-up in Writing Magazine’s 750-word competition. Lovely comments from the judges.

Porkies, a short story, is included in The Tyranny of Bacon anthology published by Pure Slush (Australia) in August 2020 and available on Kindle and through Lulu.

2019

Destination: Anywhere, a short story, was published in riverbabble’s Winter Solstice 34 2019 online anthology on the theme of interrupted/unfinished. (USA) Update: This online magazine now appears to be defunct and the link no longer works. A copy of the short story will appear on my Fiction from my Keyboard blog after 15th February 2023.

Masquerade, a short poem, was accepted by Pure Slush for one of their 7Deadly Sins anthologies – mine was in the Envy edition. (Australia)

2016

Waiting for Gertie, a short story and winner of Writing Magazine’s Dialogue Only subscriber’s competition.
