Freakin' odd

It makes me happy to hear David Cook's music on the radio. Because I like the songs, yes, but mostly because I'm happy that he's successful, like I know him or something. I need to have a talk with myself about boundaries or something.

Snow cuteness.

Two hours or so after it started snowing, Sammy has just noticed the giant white flakes floating outside the window, and he is mesmerized. It is the most precious thing ever. I wish I had a video camera.

yeah, that was a horrible idea

played volleyball for the first time in... 4 years? I've been home for an hour and a half, and already my everything hurts. if I can move at all tomorrow, it will be some kind of miracle.

light at the end of the tunnel

After 3 (5?) pretty solid months of doing my best homage to sloth, I am so ready to be out of here.

I'm still not happy with my internship presentation, but I've got 24 hours left to worry about that.

Today I set up a phone interview for a job I think I really want, talked to a cute guy for a while, and ate some vegetables. I'll take that as a win.

so here's a fun fact

Minoxidil is highly toxic to cats.

So when I grow up to be an old maid, it will still be because my cat won out over some guy, but maybe not for the reason I expected.
A recent poll indicates that 40% of registered voters think Palin is qualified to serve as president. I can only hope that many of these people thought this was a civics test, and were confirming that they think she's over 35, and a natural born citizen of the US.

Really questionable song choices this season... maybe they're running out of material.

Last week they gave Kim Kardashian Baby Got Back for her mambo - which was frankly a horrible song choice for the style, but got points for comedy at least. Not that the show needs any more self-indulgent humor, with Cloris Leachman on this season.

This Week In Randomness, they gave Brooke Burke that song from the diamond commercials, which I'm sure has an actual name, and Franz Ferdinand for Misty and Maks's Paso, but not the part of it that I think leads itself to the choreography, or maybe the band was just playing it too up-tempo.

And then Lance Bass got I Kissed a Girl When the song started, I thought "oh, maybe they're letting the couples choose the music" but it was obvious from the interview after that it had been assigned. I think a couple seasons ago, they were rotating through the professionals, and each of them would pick all the music one week, so they're probably still doing that. But yeah, I'm... I'm not sure if conflicted or confused is the word. Lance and Lacey clearly embraced it, so, whatever, I guess.

wherein I am woefully uneducated

I watched the 2008 Tour Of Olympic Superstars to kill time before the presidential debate. Lots of handwaving, not much actual gymnastics.

I don't understand a lot about how our government actually functions. I don't particularly understand foreign policy. I don't know whether agreeing or refusing to speak with a despot would be more or less effective than any other plan. Therefore, a large portion of what they said basically went in one ear and out the other. What did stick with me:

McCain's smirking while Obama talks. Yes, it may have been his effort to stand there and look approachable, or whatever, rather than actual laughing at Obama's opinions. Sure, I was already biased. But why can't we have an election based on "our parties and campaigns have a fundamentally different approach to many issues" rather than taking every opportunity to belittle people. It's like the joking about being a community organizer, all over again. Does this mean that I am voting against a ticket because I don't want to go have a beer with them?
