Eloise's Elysium
eloise_bright
A quick post to thank all the kind people who sent me snowflakes and Christmas greetings. It's very much appreciated. My mum's health has deteriorated over the last few months, and she's spent quite a bit of time in hospital. She's home again and keeping quite well at the moment, but with helping to look after her and my own family, I don't get to spend much time online any more.

I hope things will improve in the New Year, and I do have some fics lying around on my hard drive that I would love to get around to finishing and posting. For now I just want to let you all know that I really appreciate the good thoughts and prayers you've all sent me.

Hugs to you all,
Eloise

But rumours of my demise... Yeah. I've been MIA for a few months, and I discovered a strange and wonderful truth - you can live without the internet. Not that I intended to be offline for four months, you understand, but RL was rather demanding. Family stuff, Mum's illness, the annual round of cancer testing and general work-related madness conspired to keep me from the computer.

I've missed you all very much, and I'd love to be able to say that I'm back 100 percent, but the way things are at the moment, I'll have to settle for about 50%. I'm gradually catching up on all the news, desperately playing catch-up on S4 of SPN (I've only seen up to Afterschool Special), and searching vainly for squee about Being Human - lonelybrit I'm looking in your direction.

I'm so sorry I haven't replied to emails, but I will try to do better. *resolve face*

Still alive. I'm spending most of the week offline, due to various RL commitments, but in the rare moments of the weekend I get five minutes to myself, I've been trying to write Merlin fic. I'm working on a longer Arthur/Merlin snarky h/c piece, but after watching ep 1.09, I had to write a little Uther POV piece.

The title is taken from Lux Aurumque by Eric Whiteacre. The text and translation of the chorale are at the end of the ficlet.

TITLE: Light of Gold
RATING: PG13 gen
CHARACTERS: Uther
SPOILERS: up to 1.09 - Excalibur
NOTES: 600 words. Set pre series. Arthur's birth.

He is King. Lord of all he surveys, ruler of castle and kingdomCollapse )

I don't often remember to do this, but I have to wish yasminke a happy birthday. Beta above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to the Winchesters. I think the day is long over where you are, but you can bask in the knowledge that the celebrations concerning the anniversary of your birth continue on into the west.

So, there's this show...

I've mentioned it briefly in my sadly infrequent recent postings. I don't think those mentions really convey how utterly I have fallen for Merlin.

There are several reasons why this show has reduced me to inarticulate squee. I shall endeavour to articulate them:

8 not particularly spoilery reasons why I'm loving MerlinCollapse )

My brain continues to dribble these horrible little snippets of badfic for this wonderful contest.

I apologise now for this one...Collapse )

This one's for you, yasminke, for all those times I forgot to capitalize...

John Winchester had raised his boys to be huntersCollapse )

My first entry for the Bullwinchester-Lytton Worst First Lines contest, slightly spoilery for SPN 4.05.

In the end it wasn't the whole demon blood baby formula fiasco that led to Sam Winchester's ultimate damnationCollapse )

I'm emerging from radio silence once again. RL is still very stressful, and I'm not able to get online during the week at all. I do manage to catch up at the weekend, watch SPN and read what fic I can.

This weekend I logged on to find that win_non_con is running this weekend, and that the wonderful Bullwinchester-Lytton Worst First Lines contest is back for a second year. Of course I had to have a go...

The first one I wrote is slightly spoilery for SPN 4.05, so I've put it in a separate post.

Here are my other offerings thus far:

Dean,Collapse )

And in homage to the original Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, here's my own version of "It was a dark and stormy night..."

It was a dark and stormy nightCollapse )

Go on over and enjoy the awfulness that is the worst first lines of SPN fic we can come up with.

Emerging from radio silence to express Supernatural squee. It's been a while since I've had anything to squee about, I've been so stressed with RL stuff, but I do manage to get online about once a week, and tonight I saw SPN 4.03.

cut for ridiculously fangirly and fairly repetitive 4.03 squeeCollapse )

First, I'd like to thank everyone for their good wishes concerning my mum. We're still waiting for test results and hoping for the best. The new pain medication is working quite well, and the physiotherapy gives her some temporary relief.

The computer might finally be virus-free. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and running daily scans, and so far so good.

And I've managed to write fic. Not very long, and not what I was planning to write, but at least I've managed to write something.

TITLE: Under Control
RATING: PG13 gen
CHARACTERS: teen Sam, teen Dean and John
DISCLAIMER: Not my boys
NOTES: 3 x 500 word ficlets, 3 POVS. Sam sleepwalks.

Just a quick post to thank everyone for their good wishes for my Mum - it's very much appreciated. She's in the middle of various tests at the moment, CT and bone density scans, and she's going to see the oncology surgeon tomorrow. She's in quite a lot of pain, and although she's getting weekly physio, the benefits are temporary. I'm spending as much time with her as I can, and trying to remain positive.

The PC is still virus-ridden, but hopefully the problem will be sorted by next week. I'm hoping to get some fic writing done when the computer is up and running again. I had to pull out of spn_summergen which I felt awful about, but I knew with Mum being unwell and my computer woes I was never going to make the deadline.

I don't get much of a chance to check LJ at the moment, so I feel a little disconnected and maudlin. I really appreciate all the messages that everyone left on my last post - and I hope that I'll be able to get back to checking LJ and keeping up with all the news quite soon.

Just a quick entry to let folks know I'm going to MIA for a while. My mum hasn't been very well, so I've been spending time with her, as well as doing family holiday stuff.

My home computer is virus-ridden, and I haven't been online for the last few weeks. I'm stealing a few minutes on hubby's laptop to type this entry. I'm sorry I haven't been around, and I'm so sorry I'm missing out on all the news and fics, but hopefully I'll get my new laptop up and running after the holidays. I'm not going to be able to reply to comments, but I'd appreciate any of your good thoughts/prayers for my mum.

I've been skirting the Schwarzchild radius of the workload of despair for the last three weeks. I finally finished the new Pupil Profiles yesterday and handed them in. 20,000 words of edu-speak gobbledegook. I can go back to actually thinking about teaching again.

I've been trying to keep up with the writing too. This fic isn't one of the plot bunnies from Asylum con, but is one of those 'write what you know' stories. I feel for Dean in this one.

TITLE: Banishment
RATING: PG13 (gen)
CHARACTERS: John, Dean and Sam
DISCLAIMER: Not my boys
NOTES: 3200 words. Pre-series. Lying to Dad. Title and quote from “Banishment” by Siegfried Sassoon.

At Asylum last weekend, I met the darling annemiek81 again, and she has since been very supportive of my muse, sending it regular injections of Jeffrey Dean Morgan to revive it. It was her birthday on the 15th, and I had half a fic written for her, so I promised I would have it done for the weekend.

This little bunny is one of the many donated to my muse by the wonderful princess_s. She rocks the angst.

Happy Birthday, annemiek81. Have some stern!John and angst spread so thick you could cut it with a knife.

DISCLAIMER: Not my boys

Fic! This was written for asylum_spnfics. I am attempting to write other fic, but my body is demanding sleep. Stupid body. *grumbles*

I am returned from the Asylum, suitably knackered and squee-ed out for another year.

It's almost time for Asylum again - I can't wait to share the squee with real life people about John and Dean and Sam. The guest list is interesting - I'm looking forward to hearing Jim Beaver talk about Bobby (and what his thoughts are on why Bobby was going to shoot John full of rocksalt.)

I do wish the con organizers had managed to get one of the writers, though. Sara or Raelle would have been great to listen to. Ah, well.

I got my Asylum fic done, and now I'm thinking about spn_summergen. I want to sign up, but my muse is a fickle thing at the moment. And work is horrific. I shall ponder it a while.

Have a drabble:

So, I've been trying desperately to work on my Asylum con fic - I have an idea, but I'm so exhausted with RL work I can barely string a coherent sentence together. And then the muse decided she wanted some Dean h/c. John POV. With added angst.

TITLE: Smoke Damage
RATING: PG13 gen
CHARACTERS: John, teen Dean and Sam

NOTES: 2215 words. Written for the 50scenes prompt #38 - Raw. Pre-series. John POV. Dean gets injured on hunt.

The holidays are slipping away quicker than I hoped. I've been spending time with the girlies, and doing some spring-cleaning in the bedrooms. I've been working on my Asylum fic, and a shorter piece for 50scenes.

It's mostly me trying to get into John's headspace early in his hunting life, prompted by Dean's revelation in 'No Exit' that John took him shooting for the first time when he was six or seven. This is set a little before that.

TITLE: Tools of the Trade
RATING: PG13
CHARACTERS: John and wee!Dean
DISCLAIMER: Not my boys
NOTES: 1000 words. Written for the 50scenes prompt Nocturnal. Dean can't sleep.

Dean spent the first year of his existence awakeCollapse )
