Interview with American christian fiction writers (ACFW)
I’m excited to welcome Elle E Kay as our Featured Author this week! Elle released Midnight Masquerade, the second book in her Toxic Truths series, in November. I enjoyed this book immensely—it kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end—and have lots of questions about the story and Elle’s writing process, so let’s dive in.
Midnight Masquerade blends mystery, suspense, and high-stakes adventure with a compelling romance. What do you most hope readers experience when they step into this story?
Interview on the Between the Lines podcast with Jennifer Sienes.
I’m so excited to talk today to Elle E. Kay, the talented author of Christian romantic suspense. She blows my mind just looking at all the books she writes—Elle is a prolific author, specializing in thrilling stories with espionage and edge-of-your-seat action that I can barely imagine. So, let’s dive right in. Where did you get started with all this?
Interview on Christine L. Henderson… Reading and Writing Books blog.
You’ve now published several books, but what inspired you to write that first one? How long did it take you to write your first book that was published? How many rewrites did you do on it?
My first book was non-fiction. It was about living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, so my struggles with EDS inspired that one. My fiction debut seemingly came out of nowhere. I just sat down one night and started writing it. That book was a semi-finalist in the Genesis contest, so that gave me the courage to keep going.
Interview on Linda Shenton Matchett’s “Talkshow Thursday” blog.
I’m pleased to welcome Elle to my blog today. She writes fabulous books! Grab a cup of your favorite beverage and read about her writing journey. She’s got a new release too!
Have you ever considered writing under a pseudonym? Why or why not?
I write under two pseudonyms. I chose Ellie Mae Kay for my children’s fiction because I had already published non-fiction under my real name, and I wanted to create clear separation between genres.

When a deadly bioweapon is stolen, Craig Malone is tasked with providing security to the doctor working against the clock to develop an antidote. What Craig didn’t anticipate was reconnecting with his best friend’s little sister, Sadie Kline. Sadie is now an ER nurse and a possible target of the thief.
EmpowerMoms Blog
This was an intriguing, fast paced, Christian suspense book with some clean romance that kept my interest from beginning to end. I liked getting to know the main characters Sadie, Madison, Craig and Matt; as they race against the clock to stop a deadly bioweapon from falling into dangerous hands. Kidnapping, bombs, fires, shooting and more!

Midnight Offensive is the first novel I’ve read by Elle E. Kay, and it most certainly won’t be my last. When this novel kicks off, there is a lot to unpack, and there is an air of uneasiness that permeates as the stage is set, and this level of tension does not let up until the end.

Midnight Offensive is the first book I have read written by Elle E. Kay and I look forward to reading some more books. This story was such a whirlwind, it took me a moment to unpack. If you like a good Christian suspense novel, this will hit the spot.

The Farm Life Inspires Elle E. Kay’s Work
“Starting with my debut, I’ve put a couple of farms scenes in my book,” Elle says. “[My farm and its animals] are in my books a lot. … [To write,] I sit on my screened porch in fall, spring and summer because I can look out over the acres and enjoy the animals. That’s my favorite go-to place to write. In the winter, … I usually sit on my couch to write.”

Where Memories Meet Fiction: The Real Story Behind Grave Pursuits by Elle E. Kay
Back when my son was young, we spent a lot of time camping as a family. We visited state parks across Pennsylvania, including Hickory Run, Worlds End, Ricketts Glen, and Promised Land. These were some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. I loved hiking the trails and soaking in the fresh mountain air. Those moments brought me joy. They still do when I think back on them.

Author and Book Spotlight
Today I’m excited to welcome author Elle Kay as she shares about her latest release and about herself. And she’s generously offered to gift one lucky reader with a book of their choice from her catalogue.
Inspired by the Hero released today (October 26, 2022), the 15th book in the multi-author “Heroes of Freedom Ridge” Series. It’s a romance with a heavy suspense thread. Each book is a complete story, so they can be read out of order, but since new characters are introduced in each book, you may enjoy the stories more if you read them sequentially.

Welcome back, Elle. God has really been moving in your writing life. What do you see on the horizon?
There are several more books I hope to write including another book for the Blushing Brides Series, but once Lawfully Vindicated releases, God willing, my release schedule will slow down until winter.

Gardening and Goats
by Elle E. Kay
The Rose of Sharon is in bloom. It is beyond beautiful. The blooms capture my attention every time I walk by on my way. Unfortunately, they attract the attention of our nine goats and three sheep too. As do most other attempts I’ve made to garden. I’ve tried hanging baskets, which they try their best to eat from. I’ve tried fenced area, which they’ve maneuvered their way into.

My weakness. His strength
by Elle E. Kay
It is a beautiful Sunday morning here in Shickshinny, Pennsylvania. I woke up earlier than usual this morning. I can hear the birds singing and the roosters crowing.
Another great day to be a servant of our Living God. Unless God changes my plans, I will be singing this morning during service. I’ve been in the choir for years, but I still get nervous every time I lift my voice up in praise in front of the congregation. It’s difficult for my fellow parishioners to see, but I’m actually quite shy.

Broken Eggs
by Elle E. Kay
At around 6:30 p.m., I changed my pants to put the goats away, so I wouldn’t get mud and manure all over the clothes I planned to wear to prayer meeting. Rushing back in, I changed back into the clothes I would be wearing out to prayer meeting. Quickly, I prepared my coffee and gathered my things. I would be leaving the house right on time. I might even get there a minute or two early. A good thing, since Pastor Dave likes to say ‘If you’re not early, you’re late.’

Today is a Beautiful Day
Today is a beautiful day. The sun is coming up through the woods behind my house. When I look out front, I can see that the daffodils are beginning to open. The grass is turning green again. I can hear the birds singing their lovely songs. I can choose to focus on all these wonderful things. I can choose to trust God and enjoy the gifts He’s provided.
