By the way, someone posted in my "friends-only" post asking me to be added, but it was an anonymous comment, so I have no idea who you were. Please comment here if it was you.

My rommate's boyfriend just inadvertently saved me from complete insanity. He connected to our network, and his iTUnes music library became visible to me. I was scrolling through, and noticed some Clash on there. And I thought "I just wonder, if MAYBE the BAD song I was trying to think of really was the Clash, even though it doesn't really sound like them." And lo and behold! There it was! Right there in iTunes! It's called 'Train in Vain', and it IS the Clash and not Big Audio Dynamite. I AM SAVED!

(P.S. - Mike, the subtitle IS "Stand By Me", so I wasn't completely off.)

11:25 pm - To Do at some point
- Organize my iTunes that way I want to (but never really take the time to do)
- Go to Ikea and get that light for my cabinet
- Re-bolt the bookshelves to the wall since they shook loose during the last earthquake
- Take clothes to the drycleaners
- Read the new Harry Potter
- Watch those Netflix movies so I can get the next ones

9:41 pm - Music Question
Ok, somebody help me out, please!

I'm trying to come up with the name of a song, and iTunes isn't really helping me out. It's by Big Audio Dynamite (at least I'm about 99% sure it is) and it's not "Rush" or "The Globe". It's that other one. You know. The other one.

Unfortunately I can't tell you any of the lyrics, which is why Google won't help me, either.

Help?

- Hectic day at work
- Horrible traffic
- Great interview

Also, I think but am not entirely certain that I got hit on by a married man. Tad Hamilton thinks I was. It's not surprising that a married guy would hit on someone, it just seems like this particular one isn't someone who would. But what do I know.

Ok, that was a long and emotionally exhausting day. Tomorrow is going to suck, work-wise. I will be very glad to see this weekend, even though the person I was planning to spend it with is now on a plane across the country. Instead I think I'll sleep a whole lot. Maybe I'll write more when my brain works again.

current mood: tired

11:50 am - Whoa
Something really horrible just happened in the life of someone I've grown very close to lately. There's been an ongoing issue, and I've been trying to be very supportive and I've been doing a LOT of listening about this situation recently, as it's escalated, but it just ended in the worst case scenario. It's going to destroy my friend, and all I can do is stand by and watch as everything falls apart. I hate being helpless in situation like this.

current mood: shocked

I weighed kitties this morning. Marvel still weighs 10 pounds, which is not that big for a cat but not unreasonably small or anything. Moxie, on the other hand, only weighs 5 pounds. Her littleness still makes me so nervoud about getting her fixed. They're curled up together in the little bed (again) and so cute I just want to pick them up and squeeeeeeeeze them.

9:09 pm - Weekend wrap-up
Ended up having a much more chill weekend than last weekend (and last week) which were spent partying way too much and working way too much. Headed out to No. Ho. kind of late Friday night, staying up really late, then sleeping really late. Roused ourselves and headed for a great BBQ place in Burbank that I'd never heard of, then took a stroll though Best Buy where "Beastmaster" was purchased on DVD amidst exclamations over my never having seen it. After spending some time engrossed in the Worst 80s Dance Movie Ever, aka "Stayin' Alive", Beastmaster was watched. Whooo boy. Loincloths! Ferrets! A tiger painted black! Boobies! Child sacrifices! It had everything you could ask for. Unless you could ask for good acting or a reasonably coherent plot. Today involved more sleeping late before heading to dim sum (mmmmmmm), after which I finally went home. I went into the office for a little while then came home and crashed. It's nice to sleep in my own bed.

Tomorrow: the first of my two job interviews this week, which reminds me that I never quite got around to taking clothes to the dry cleaners, and that most of my interviewish type clothes are way too big. I wish I'd gotten a little bit more done at work, but oh well, sleepiness and dim sum were taking over my brain.

Here ends the most unexciting update ever.

I wish I had something super interesting to update about, but I don't, really. Things are just kind of good. Work is good, except for the run of the mill dealing with idiots that I have to do regularly. I could go into more detail about why things have been rocking (and why I have been rocking) lately, but honestly it's just not going to be interesting to read about. Soon I am going to be asking for a raise, but not quite yet. Also, I have two interviews next week. I will use that as leverage if I have to, but hopefully I won't. As crazy as things get around here, at the moment I'm not sure leaving would be the best move for me. But I'm definitely pursuing other things so I at least have some options.

My class is good, and almost over. I can't believe it's already been 5 weeks. The fall semester will be starting very shortly.

Aside - I started this post much earlier, then had to stop for a client meeting with a client that just got assigned to me, so it was my first time meeting him. And Ho.Lee.Shit. This guy hit the genetic lottery. I've spoken to him on the phone many times in the past (I produced their website way back when), and in addition to being a stunning human specimen, he's also a total sweetheart. I anticipate it being difficult to concentrate in meetings from now on.

Ok, back to our regularly scheduled update. I should be sleeping more, but I'm having too much fun with new friends and catching up with old friends to do too much of that.

I've lost my train of thought here, so I'll end.

So I just found out that our intern is Roy Bittan's son.

You know what that means, right?

That's correct. I am going to torture him until he sets me up with Max Weinberg.

1:26 am - Life update
Haven't been posting much I guess, except for work snippets. Basically my life right now consists of working hard, partying hard, and taking one kickass class.

I would love to elaborate on all of the above, but I'm currently exhausted from all of the above.

10:44 am - Work rant
We have a production manager, TD, who has been here for a while now. In the beginning, it really helped things move along more smoothly, and lightened my workload. But it also takes me out of direct touch with vendors who are producing my projects (printers, etc. - I still have direct contact with the media people).

But more and more I feel like I have to chase him for information about the status of my projects, and that they're not being followed up on the way they would be if I wer handling them. Furthermore, when vendors give stupid whiny-assed excuses as to why they can't deliver on the due date, I don't put up with it, but he seems to just say "ok" and then when I ask him abot it, he tells me "Oh, they can't deliver until Tuesday of next week because they had ants in the breakroom last week."

On Monday of last week, TD sent off some wall plaques that we're having produced for the client (I assume he sent them on Monday, that was when he was supposed to.) At that time, I told him we needed them delivered in two weeks - on Friday, July 22. That's more than enough time - in the past, we've had them done and it's taken 4 days. Last Friday, I checked in with him to make sure we were on track, and I got the following email:

Subject: Update
From: TD
Date: 7/15/05 2:28 P.M.
To: Electricia

Quotes for the signs should be in Monday, and we should be able to turn around 2 weeks from then.

Now. Quotes: What quotes? We already got quotes, weeks and weeks ago. I never knew they needed to be changed. Secondly, two weeks from Monday? I'd said almost a week prior that I needed them on July 22, and that changes the date to August 1. I replied:

Subject: Re: Update
From: Electricia
Date: 7/15/05 2:34 P.M.
To: TD

If I'm not mistaken, we sent the signs off a week ago. At that time, I said we needed them in two weeks. I was not aware that we were getting any new quotes. I still need to have the signs delivered two weeks from a week ago (i.e. in a week)!

He then came to me and said that he thought I WANTED new quotes. I specifically said, at that time, that no, I did not need new quotes, and that I still needed the plaques on Friday, or Monday at the very latest. He said okay, he'd tell to the vendor.

This morning I spoke with the vendor directly about something else, and asked as an aside about the plaques. She said that they just got the new quotes in today, and that as soon as TD signs them, they can begin production. Uh, what? She said they HAVE to have new signed quotes because the specs changed from the original quotes (I knew none of this), and furthermore, that part of the piece is a special order and makes it longer to get in, so we're looking at 6-7 working days to get them done. I expressed my surprise, and she said "Oh, I spoke to TD on Friday and he said we had two weeks for this." I then asked her to copy me on all emails. Then I sent this one to him:

Subject: [Fwd: Re: Update]
From: Electricia
Date: 7/10/05 10:43 A.M.
To: TD

TD,

I just spoke with Debbie about these plaques, and she said that they just got pricing today, and that they had to have a new, signed quote before they could begin production. I didn't know any of this, and the first I heard of the new quotes was on Friday. Additionally, she said that the brass backplates were special order so they'd take a little longer to produce. I also specifically told you when we needed the plaques, but Debbie was under the impression that as of Friday, they had two weeks for production. Why wasn't any of this communicated to me? I have been operating under the impression - and communicating to the client - that these plaques would be ready by Friday or Monday. I *have* to know what is going on with my projects. I can't stress this enough. If I'd known these things when you did, I could have let the client know that there was going to be a delay, but instead they've now spent nearly two weeks expecting delivery on a certain day, and I have to tell them it's going to be at least another week. I know that there are a lot of projects that you have to follow up on daily - do you have any suggestions as to how to facilitate the communication process? I would like to be copied on any emails regarding my projects, but I feel like there needs to be more than that. Please let me know what you think we should do.

E

I was tempted to copy GJB, but that's not my style, so I didn't. Anyway, to sum up, RAR.

4:35 am
My sleep schedule is really, really messed up at the moment. (why yes, it IS 4:35 a.m.!)

I'm also one of the dumbest people on earth at the moment, as I left some very important information (that I needed to do some work at home) at work, and I don't even know how that's possible. I actually remember taking it out of the office and having it while I went to the car. Which makes me a bit nervous that perhaps I put it on top of my car and drove off, or something equally stupid. So i did as much work as I could without it, and I will go in super early to do the rest.

Tonight I plan to come home, do laundry and finish cleaning my room (those are the things I didn't finish this weekend) and actually finish, however long that takes. I will NOT take a nap, no matter the temptation. I will go to bed at a normal, reasonable hour and get a normal, reasonable amount of sleep.

Really.

For the record, my last post was not about anything in particular. I've been working on several things at work that are coming together very well, and I'm being recognized for it. I had a really good meeting with GJB this morning.

Plus I just feel great. I probably didn't technically get "enough" sleep, but I'm way more alert than I can ever remember being on a Monday. Or pretty much any other day of the week, anyway. Perhaps it's true that when you eat more fruits and veggies and drink lots of water, you feel better! Huh.

I also look really fabulous, which works out well since I am having an impromptu lunch meeting with one of my clients, and it would suck if I were in torn jeans and no makeup.
