MedTech eLearning Guide for University of Leeds

October 9, 2025/in Bespoke, Healthcare, Multilingual /by TED

The University of Leeds partnered with Aleido Learning UK to create the MedTech Translation eLearning Guide – an innovative digital resource designed to help academics turn early-stage medical research into real-world healthcare solutions.

Developed within the university’s Medical Technologies Innovation and Knowledge Centre (IKC), the project aimed to make complex MedTech translation processes clear, engaging, and accessible to a global audience. Using Articulate Rise, Aleido transformed detailed academic content into a visually rich, interactive experience that empowers researchers to navigate the journey from concept to market-ready product.

About the client

The University of Leeds is one of the UK’s leading higher education institutions, globally recognised for its commitment to research excellence, innovation, and impact. Founded in 1904, the university is a member of the prestigious Russell Group and is known for fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government to address real-world challenges.

Within its Medical Technologies Innovation and Knowledge Centre (IKC), the University of Leeds plays a pioneering role in transforming early-stage academic research into market-ready medical technologies that enhance patient outcomes and drive economic growth. The IKC supports researchers in developing new medical devices and technologies for clinical and commercial application, bridging the gap between laboratory discovery and healthcare delivery.

The Challenge

As part of its mission to support innovation, the University of Leeds identified a need to provide academics with the tools and knowledge to translate their research into commercially viable medical technologies.

With funding for the Medical Technologies IKC programme drawing to a close, the university sought to develop a comprehensive, open-access digital learning package. This resource would support academics across higher education and research institutions in turning their ideas into devices and products that could improve patient care and advance healthcare innovation.

The objective was clear: to inspire and equip researchers with the confidence and understanding to navigate the process of MedTech translation, from concept to market-ready product, while ensuring accessibility for a broad, global audience.

To meet these goals, the University of Leeds turned to Aleido Learning for their expertise in creating engaging, user-centred digital learning experiences.

The Solution

Aleido Learning partnered with the University of Leeds to design and develop the MedTech Translation eLearning Guide – a two-hour digital course available through the university’s website. Built using Articulate Rise, the module combined a sleek, modern aesthetic with a responsive, mobile-first design, ensuring accessibility across all devices.

The content was structured as an ‘open toolkit’, allowing users to either progress sequentially through the full learning journey or dip into specific sections as needed. Aleido’s instructional design team transformed dense technical content into an engaging experience by using:

  • Animations to illustrate complex concepts clearly and visually
  • Video integration, combining existing footage with new interviews from subject experts
  • Interactive elements that break down large sections into manageable learning blocks
  • Parallax scrolling for a contemporary ‘website feel’ that encourages exploration

The graphics and layout were designed to maintain a professional tone while keeping the interface intuitive and visually appealing. This ensured that even intricate scientific content was approachable and easy to navigate for the university’s target audience of academics and researchers.

The result was an elegant, informative, and flexible digital resource that helps academics transform research ideas into real-world medical innovations.

The Results

This was extremely successful digital learning project for University of Leeds. The MedTech Translation Guide received an overwhelmingly positive response from the research community. Academics praised the clarity, accessibility, and professional quality of the resource, which has since been widely shared by stakeholders across the medical technology sector.

One representative from the University of Leeds commented:

“The community has responded really positively to the resource, and it has been shared by some really high-profile stakeholders (some independently, which is great).

The project management by Bryony was the best I have experienced and undoubtedly was the reason it was delivered on time and budget without stress (on our side anyway!) … our suppliers could learn a lot from Aleido. I certainly did!”

Delivered on time and within budget, the project showcased Aleido’s ability to blend creativity, clarity, and collaboration – resulting in a learning experience that continues to make a meaningful impact on medical innovation and academic development.
