The E-learning section of the UN Information Portal on Multilateral Environmental Agreements (InforMEA) offers dozens of completely free and self-paced courses on international environmental law and Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs).
What You Will Find
Our courses cover:
- Introductory-level content on most major MEAs
- Cross-cutting themes like implementation, human rights, and gender
- Specialized courses developed directly by MEA secretariats
Earn Certificates of Completion
At the end of most courses, students can complete a short quiz and feedback form to receive a Certificate of Completion, useful for personal development or workshop integration.
Instructors can also incorporate these Certificates into blended-learning approaches to track student progress.
Organized Learning Pathways
Courses are grouped into six main environmental topics, similar to the MEA legal content on the main InforMEA site. Highlights include:
- Links to source texts and materials for deeper exploration
- The option to earn a Diploma by completing Certificates in a topic-specific course set
MEA-Specific Subsections
Advanced students can explore MEA sub-sections, which include:
- Technical courses curated by MEA secretariats
- Topics on implementation, negotiation, subsidiary bodies, and other MEA-specific content
Accessibility and Offline Options
The platform works best with a connection of 3G or higher. For users with limited connectivity, many courses offer:
- A downloadable PDF version of the materials
- Content optimized for mobile-friendly formats (work in progress)
