Expedition Preparations

Before every Expedition, you can take this time to prepare themselves by practicing in the Sparring Grounds, managing their Skills and Relics. You may also take this time to complete Nightfarer Quests if you wish. Once you are ready, proceed to the grace at the Roundtable Hold.

1 walkthrough elden ring nightraign wiki guide 600px

Select the target boss you wish to target, though it is not required, and begin the matchmaking for the expedition. When a match has been made, choose your character to begin. Once the match begins, you may begin your expedition through Limveld.

Expedition Day 1 & 2

When you begin your expedition, day 1 will begin. Communicate with your teammates via map pins to show your intent on where you wish to explore. Be wary of the Ring of Reign as staying outside of it will gradually lower your HP. For now, strategically plan out your route of exploration to collect Weapons that scale with your character's attributes, collect consumables, and other items along the way.

2 walkthrough elden ring nightraign wiki guide 600px

Enter the various locations that are on the map to take out the enemies and bosses within the area to gain useful loot, Dormant Powers, and runes to level up. Pass through a Grace every now and then to replenish your General Stats, such as your HP, FP, and Stamina.

Once the circle gets smaller, you will need to make sure to stay within the circle. Clear the enemies and wait for the Night Boss to appear, defeat the Night Boss, and pick a Dormant Power as loot. Once that is complete, the Ring of Reign will restart and day 2 of your expedition will begin.

3 walkthrough elden ring nightraign wiki guide 600px

Repeat the process of going through Limveld and switching out or collecting Weapons and Dormant Powers. After defeating the Night Boss at the end of the day, there will be a blue substance. Interact with the substance to enter the final arena.

Expedition Day 3

Once you reach the final area, that is when Day 3 begins. You can take this time to prepare for your fight with a Nightlord by passing through the Grace, and interacting with the Merchant to purchase consumables, and also the anvil to strengthen your armaments.

4 walkthrough elden ring nightraign wiki guide 600px

Once you and your team are ready, head down the stairs and interact with the large double doors to enter the arena to face the Nightlord. When you have successfully defeated the Nightlord, you will be rewarded with Relics.

Endgame

Once you complete your first expedition, you will need to complete 3 more expeditions and successfully defeat the Nightlord each time. Upon defeating the Nightlord on the last day of the 4th Expedition, you will be rewarded with the Primordial Nightlord's Rune and teleported away from your teammates.

The boss field will now connect to the Roundtable Hold, enter the hold, and make your way across the round table into the room with the corpse at the end and the broken down wall. Interact with the corpse and offer the Nightlord's Rune, and you will see a cutscene of the ending you received.

Great Hollow Walkthrough

The Great Hollow is the newest Shifting Earth unlocked from the latest DLC: Forsaken Hollows. This transforms Limveld into layers of complex areas, filled with ancient ruins and Forts inhabited by old and new bosses. Now, with a more unique twist, players have to navigate, locate, and destroy the Resonating Crystals along with the Great Crystal to acquire the Favor of the Great Hollow and cleanse the Shifting Earth's curse.

For this Walkthrough, we'll be taking a look at all the new points of interest, encounters, mechanics, and how-tos in the Great Hollow in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Elden Ring Nightreign Great Hollow Contents Guide

Expedition Day 1

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Spawn Points

There will be three exact starting locations where players will spawn at the beginning of the expedition. Upon entering Great Hollow, players can find themselves in the northeast, southwest, and south sections of the map. Each starting location will have its own set of starting enemies. Make sure to defeat all of them to level up as soon as possible, as things can get difficult quite quickly.

Regardless of whether you spawned on the south side of the map or the southwest side, we recommend defeating all of the enemies and heading straight for the Kaiden Mercenaries. The starting enemies, as well as the Kaiden Mercenaries, provide decent Runes, which you'll need to level up using the Site of Grace near their area.

If you start on the northeast section of the map, you'll find multiple enemies you can defeat. There will also be a nearby Site of Grace you can use to level up. Once that's done, you'll see in front of you a Great Church with more packs of enemies. We recommend clearing this area, as you'll end up with heaps of Runes. Additionally, if you happen to come across Churches, we recommend spending a few minutes here to collect flasks, as long as you feel safe enough to defeat large packs of enemies or Field Bosses.

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Resonating Crystals

Aside from defeating the Nightlord to complete the expedition, there is another general objective we recommend players do. Scattered all over Great Hollow are Resonating Crystals. Players will need to destroy these crystals in order to lift the curse upon entering the Temples and Forts. The Resonating Crystals are large, blue points of interest in the game, where, if you're playing solo, you'll only need to locate and destroy three Resonating Crystals, while if you're in a party, you'll need to destroy four. While these crystals are not marked on the map in Day 1, it's still recommended to find them before Day 2, as you'll need all the time you can get for the Temples and Forts run. Additionally, the Resonating Crystal's location is randomized depending on the seed of the run. There is, however, a preset location for all of the Resonating Crystals in Great Hollow. You can use this information to strategize and optimize your run.

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Great Crystal

Once you've destroyed 3 or 4 Resonating Crystals (depending on your party number), you'll have to head toward the Great Crystal in the purple field in the middle of the map. Once you're there, you can pick up the Favor of the Great Hollow, where the crystal's curse (-50% Max HP debuff upon entering Temples and Forts) is lifted. Additionally, you'll also receive the buff, which grants you increased Art gauge when you've exhausted your sacred flasks. Ideally, it is best to complete this on Day 1 to spend the remaining day on more power-scaling areas. This will not always be the case. If you're unable to complete this objective by the end of Day 1, it is still recommended to prioritize this at the start of Day 2.

NOTE: Everyone in the party has to get the buff in the Great Crystal to safely enter the points of interest on Day 2.

Defeating the Day 1 Night Boss in ER Nightreign Great Hollow

Once you see the Nightreign creeping in, you'll have to head out and defeat the Night Boss. Depending on your chosen Expedition, players will face different Day 1 bosses. If you've chosen the Balancers Expedition, you'll be facing Demon in Pain & Demon from Below or the Curseblade & Divine Beast Warrior. Meanwhile, if you choose the Dreglord Expedition, you'll encounter the Death Knight or the Great Red Bear

Expedition Day 2

Where to Go for Day 2 in the Great Hollow

Upon starting Day 2, players should prioritize acquiring the Favor of the Great Hollow if they haven't unlocked it yet. If the buff was already unlocked before Day 2, players should then assess their strategy. Depending on how comfortable you are with your current build, choosing which Points of Interest to go to next will entirely depend on your assessment. If you feel like you already have a good weapon at hand but lack the passives to push through until the Nightlord, the Forts on the west and east sides are a good area to farm. If you had a good Day 1 run but still lack a proper weapon, you can opt to go to the Temples. While ultimately, it is your decision which Points of Interest to head to, we recommend heading to the Forts, then proceeding with the Temples. This ensures that you are strong enough to take on the Tower with enough passives.

NOTE: There is a Spiritstream on the Great Crystal's area that you can use to quickly navigate your way to the Towers.

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Temples

The Great Hollow Temples or the Divine Towers are large structures located at both the northwestern and southeastern corners of the map. It is a tower that consists of three bosses per floor. Upon entering the Temples, players will be greeted with unique modifiers as they enter the tower. Do take note that the bosses inside the tower will also apply the buffs. You'll then have to defeat the boss of the floor. Once you've defeated the boss for that floor, a new area will be unlocked where you can reach the next level of the tower.

Keep repeating this until you've defeated the third and final boss of the tower. After defeating all of them, you can then head to the top of the tower, where you can acquire the False Vision of a Great Rune. This Rune grants you faster auto-charging for your ultimate, as well as a bonus Murk at the end of your run. Additionally, each boss will provide heaps of runes to max out your level.

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Forts

There will be two Forts you can explore inside the Great Hollow. The first is the Western Underground Fort located in the western sector of the map, and the second one is the Eastern Underground Fort, located in the southeast section of Great Hollow. Inside these Forts are packs of enemies with multiple mini-bosses and bosses, where you can farm Runes and passives. You'll also be able to find numerous chests inside these forts. Do note that while the Forts will provide you with great passives and Runes, it's still recommended to go through the Temples next to it before facing the Day 2 boss. The temples are where you can scale the most and get the extra Murk at the end of the run.

Defeating the Day 2 Night Boss in ER Nightreign Great Hollow

Once the circle has closed in, you'll have to get to the final area quickly. To enter the Day 2 Night Boss area, you'll have to navigate through the bridge, west of the tower. There is, however, another way to enter the tower. If you find yourself running out of time and are in the southern sector of the tower, there is a cliff you can use to jump onto the balcony of the tower. When performing this leap, players should have a good grasp of the distance, as they can die by missing the balcony.

Depending on your chosen Expedition, players will face different Day 2 bosses. If you've chosen the Balancers Expedition, you'll be facing the Demon Prince or the Lord of Blood. Meanwhile, if you choose the Dreglord Expedition, you'll encounter Knight Artorias or the Divine Beast Dancing Lion. These bosses are formidable bosses you'll have to defeat. If you're against the Lord of Blood, there is an item you can acquire that will aid you in your fight. The Purifying Crystal Tear, which is sold by Libra or can be found on Blood Camps, will prevent the Lord of Blood's blood attacks from stacking bleed on you. Once you've defeated the Day 2 Night Boss, you'll be on your way to the Night Lord of the expedition.

Additional Points of Interest in Great Hollow

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Duplication Altar

There are multiple Points of Interest that will help you on your run. One of which is the Duplication Altar. The Replication Altar allows you to duplicate items. Depending on your run, you may want to duplicate your items early on, especially if you've already found a good weapon or save it for later when a party member needs it. The Duplication Altar can be found on the south side of the map. You'll have to traverse down to the lower levels until you see a staircase leading to the undergrounds of a Great Church. Deeper inside, you'll encounter a few enemies and an Elder Inquisitor. Defeat the Elder Inquisitor to gain access to the Duplication Altar.

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Great Church

Along the way, you'll encounter a few Great Churches. These are similar in appearance to the Churches you find on the map. The Great Churches are known to have enemies and bosses inside. This is also the place where you can find Sacred Seals. Depending on the layout of the Great Church, they may sometimes have an underground area with different enemies and bosses. One example is the Duplication Altar found underground in the Great Church in the southern area of the map.

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Merchants and Golden Merchant

The Merchants are NPCs you can encounter during your run. They are located in various areas and offer a variety of items such as Consumables, Shields, and Weapons

In the Great Hollow, there's a new addition to the Merchants, which is the Golden Nomadic Specter Merchant. This Merchant appears randomly and has a different icon from the regular merchants. Once you look at the map and see a Golden merchant icon, this means that the Golden Nomadic Specter Merchant has appeared. This merchant sells a much better variety of items in exchange for runes. The golden merchant can appear in the north-west part of the Great Hollow, near the Western Waygate, and on the north-east part of the map, north of the Great Crystal.

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Waygate

The Waygates are Fast-Travel points you can use to get through the map quickly. In Great Hollow, the first Waygate is located just outside the entrance of the western Temple, while the second Waygate connects to the Eastern Underground Fort. Make sure to utilize this when you need to get to the other side quickly without wasting time.

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Spiritstream

Since the layout of the Great Hollow has a vertical composition to it, Spiritstreams are a reliable way to scale upwards without having to climb much. Players can utilize this to scale greater heights and reach new locations. While each Spiritstream has its use, there is a notable Spiritstream found in the area of the Great Crystal. Using the Spiritstream allows you to propel upwards and reach the Towers and Forts in one jump, essentially skipping over a lot of enemies and hurdles.

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Spectral Hawk Tree

Spectral Hawk Trees are another traversal points of interest. These trees allow you to call upon the Spectral Hawk, where you can grab and ride along the Spectral Hawk's designated path. Along the way, players can also drop down if they wish to. The Spectral Hawk Trees are located in a circular pattern throughout Great Hollow, allowing players to circle around the map to complete their objectives. Additionally, players can see the overview of the map while riding the Spectral Hawk Tree. This allows you to easily find and locate the Resonating Crystals scattered all over Great Hollow.

ER Nightreign Great Hollow Tunnel Entrance

If you have a character that relies on upgrading their starting weapon, you can opt to go to the Tunnels to search for the Smithing Stone. These tunnels are located on the northeast section of the map and on the northwest sector of the map. Do note that going through the tunnels may backslide your timing for the run.
