I'm very excited to report that my story, "The Hunger," is one of the three featured fics for the month of June at Hawthorn & Vine, celebrating the trope of D/Hr as magical creatures. The story was originally written for the first round of the Dramione Couples Remix; my chosen couple were Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf, though the story contains elements of another well-known fairy tale as well.

Spotted this little item on Twitter and found my jaw dropping in disbelief.  Now, however, I find myself feeling cynical and not really surprised after all.

http://bit.ly/Jnn56f

All I can think is, Jo Rowling made such a huge stink with that nasty lawsuit against Steve Vander Ark's publisher several years ago, stopping him from putting into print form the very HP Lexicon that she herself praised for years in its online form, even going so far as to say that SHE used it as a reference when she forgot a detail from one of the books.  And the basis of the lawsuit – a really big part of it – was that supposedly, she planned to publish a very similar sort of encyclopedia volume, and his doing it circumvented her right to do it herself.

Now, apparently, she "has no firm plans" to publish such a volume after all.  Quite frankly, I think that what she's done really sucks.  Not only did she drag Vander Ark's publisher (and indirectly, Vander Ark himself) through a mean-spirited and completely pointless lawsuit, but now she has also disappointed her many fans by turning around and backing out of the promised project herself.

I realize that my feelings on this might be controversial and there are bound to be some who will disagree with me, but I really needed to vent on this one!

At long last, I have finally updated "Second Chapter," my sequel to "A Writer of Fictions." It's been ages since I last updated, and I want to offer heartfelt thanks to readers for their extraordinary patience and loyalty! And since it's been so long, I'd like to suggest going back and rereading Chapter Six, since it's essential to remember what was happening and the time frame of the action just prior to this new chapter. We pick things up in medias res, as it were, in Chapter Seven.

Title: Second Chapter
Author: eilonwy
Rating: NC-17/MA
Warnings: Explicit sexual content, language
Summary: Newlyweds Draco and Hermione leave their student days at Oxford behind and begin a new chapter of their life together – in London. This story picks up right where "AWOF" leaves off and covers the three years between the end of "AWOF" and the start of "Baby Days".
Notes: Thanks, as always, to my marvelous beta, bunney. Big hugs, Krissy! Thanks, too, to Elysium, for the beautiful banner!

So excited to share the gorgeous new banners that xfsista has made for me, to grace my newest fic, "Pearls After Swine." She made several, and I found I couldn't choose between two of them, so I decided to use both, alternating between chapters. Both are amazing, aesthetically very beautiful, and capture the essence of the story perfectly.  Thank you, Julie! <3

For some reason, LJ isn't letting me actually show the banners here, but you can find them, along with the story, at:

Woo hoo!  The O&F Fic exchange has gone public at last!  A whole slew of great new fics to enjoy!

I'm a participant (hope my recipient enjoys my gift!), and I've received a wonderful gift fic as well.

Check it out for some great Dramione reading:

I will preface this unabashed and (admittedly fairly juvenile) rant by saying that I know getting annoyed by such things is a stupid waste of energy and time.

Okay.  Obligatory mature speech done.

Why is it that some readers will review a fic with enthusiastic, delighted raves and then turn around and rate it with only four stars? That suggests to me that either they found some fault that they chose to leave unmentioned, OR they just don't believe in giving five stars on principle-- because, I suppose, like some teachers (not me!) who don't believe in ever giving an A, these people don't believe that there is such a thing as a five-star-worthy story.  Even if they love it.

The ripple effect of those four stars is to drag down the overall rating of the story, so that even if it's received five stars from every other reviewer, a whole bunch of others, that one four-star rating is enough to now make it an overall four and a half.  Which suggests to a casual viewer of posted fics, that... eh... it was good, but not amazing.  Some little thing was lacking somewhere along the line.

Why am I ranting about this just now?  Because it's happened to me in the past and it's happening right now with the posting of a recently finished fic of mine at an archive that shall remain unnamed.  Brilliant reviews throughout, lovely and really enthused, and then there's this one person who cheers along with the rest and then sticks it to my rating like a pin popping a balloon.  Consistently, every single review.  I would rather not hear from her at all, frankly!

End of rant.

Here's the latest in the nastiness:

I PMed the plagiarist and she replied. I'll let our exchange speak for itself:

"You really had a nerve, plagiarizing my story, "A Writer of Fictions"! Just who the hell do you think you are, stealing somebody else's hard work? You just don't take what belongs to somebody else and claim it as yours! It's ethically really a dirty, disgusting thing to do, and it's also illegal. Did you really think you could get away with this?

You are a thief and a fraud, and everybody in the fandom knows it!"

Her reply:

"I took it down not because of YOU but because it sort of sucked too much to be used anyway.
Also, stop tooting your own horn. You have 14 people who know of it. You dont even know my real username. I will continue to write my stories, and I'll continue to get reviews (even from your own reviewers) and you'll never even know :)

Your stories suck. Especially this one. Just an FYI.

And just letting you and all your followers know, it isn't ILLEGAL to copy a piece of fanfic. The moment you pull out a the bill for it, then you can go around saying that."

I guess I'm not surprised that she is as vindictive as she is. I even hesitated before messaging her, wondering if I would set her off so that she would do it again. Seems to me she's threatening to do just that, under a different user name. I love the line "I'll continue to get reviews (even from your own reviewers) and you'll never even know. :)" Omg, the unmitigated gall of this person!

So my stories suck, huh? They're "crap ass" stories, so she told bambu345. Needless to say, such comments beg the question of why she stole AWOF in the first place.  I do worry that she will do it again, though, to another fic of mine and under another user name-- for sheer spite, if for no other reason.  I have reported this nasty, arrogant little piece of shit for abuse at FF.net, and I can only hope they will take the appropriate action and ban her forever.  But the bitch is sneaky.  I would ask everybody to keep their eyes peeled over there just in case she decides to repeat the offense against me or anybody else.

Thanks, guys!  You are the BEST!!!!!   <3

As some of you might already know, yesterday a writer (I use that word advisedly) began posting my story, A Writer of Fictions, on ff.net, claiming it as her own. She quite literally stole it, word for word, right down to the title. Her name: pen_in_the_wind.

It's been an upsetting day, but ultimately, a very gratifying one, because so many people in the fandom have rallied to help me out, reporting the plagiarism, blasting the thief with PMs, sending scathing reviews. I can't express how much everyone's support has meant to me. Thankfully, the story has now been taken down, but I think it was dealt with so quickly because of the outpouring of support for me and the outrage against the thief who stole my work.

I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to all who spoke up for me! <3

Just saw Daniel Radcliffe's new film, and all I can say is WOW!!! This is one seriously creepy movie!

It's a Hammer film, and it totally lives up to that studio's classic, time-honored reputation for meaty horror films. This one is deliciously atmospheric, dark and brooding, sinister, full of shadows and foreboding and menace. It reminded me, in some ways, of Henry James's "The Turn of the Screw." Daniel is just brilliant, absolutely masterful as Arthur Kipps. This is quite a memorable and substantive first major role for him, post-Harry. He completely owns it from the first frame to the last.

Go see it, but bring a friend. You'll need somebody's hand to hold!
