Just testing to find out if I can still post on the grotty crap-ridden remnant of what used to be a fun journal.
(Unable to pay roubles for it so stuck with tacky ads; have lost favourite icons and can't post photos. But not a lot of people around here these days anyway, so it probably doesn't matter.)

(It was my mum's copy and the magic erupts from a shabby cover and tiny tiny print. Realised the cover is almost anonymous - it is Rebecca)

elmey nominated me to post covers of seven books I love - one cover a day for a week. There is to be no explanation or review, just covers. But with no dust jacket, I have posted the title page too.
And since I am not sure of the rules, I am opting out of nominating someone else this time.

elmey nominated me to post covers of seven books I love - one cover a day for a week. There is to be no explanation or review, just covers. Each time I post I will ask someone else to take up the challenge. Obviously it goes without saying that if I tag you and you don't want to it, you don't have to do it. Please do not feel obligated to join in. If you have time, loxleyprince

(And I am not sure of the rules. The books I love most have travelled with me for decades and some have lost their dust jackets along the way. Do I filch a modern image or photo my elderly plain volumes?)

And it is in Scotland!!! We are having a record-breaking heatwave here with unbelievable temperatures going up to and over 30deg, and wall to wall sunshine.
These walls are ancient.

Picked up a 1965/1966 Film Review annual at an antiques fair in Edinburgh today, mainly for this entry. WASP was quickly swatted!

Here is a poster advertising the Museum of Communism in Prague. It is above McDonald's.

I've just realised what this is. On the face of it, it is a child's puzzle; but I have just recognised the same pattern under the desk here, and realised it is actually grown-up training.

If you learned it properly you could sort out the wires for the keyboard, the mouse, the screen, the router, the computer gubbins, the scanner, the speakers, the desk lamp, the Skype camera, the mobile phone connections, the digital camera, and the wee machine that puts the tape recordings of Mr McCallum reading into digital files - most of which have two sets of wires.

Of course, the illustration does not reflect all the challenges - for example, I want a speaker on either side of the desk. And it does not show a demented human being in the middle of it all.
BUT IT DOES EXPLAIN WHY THREE MONTHS AFTER THE HOUSE WAS REWIRED MY PRINTER IS STILL NOT CONNECTED UP IN ANY WAY THAT WILL LET IT WORK.

I obviously did not do enough of these puzzles as a child. (And no, I have no idea who Mordecai and Rigby are.)

This was the view from my bedroom window this morning. You can't hear the wind howling in the still photo.
I put on my digging thermals to go down for breakfast, and here's the view on my return:

The mist is closing in. But the room is huge and cosy. It is 8.20am, and I may go back to bed for the day.

Things have been a bit fraught these last weeks so yesterday I went online and booked me a hotel in Skye.
Here is the bridge, but I wasn't walking over it today. Muncle gym star has become a toad, and the weather was appalling. I was driving up through grey murk so solid that I could not tell what was spray coming up from the road, and what was downpour from the wet fog hanging over the world.

It was bad. But I am in the hotel room now, heading for a bath, and then I am not moving from the bed until morning.

And at least I can still do that drive!

Got this yesterday, and I love it. Suspect it was the view from the holiday cottage window a century or two ago. Photo does not do it justice, but it is old and nailed into its frame, so it can't go in the scanner.
Yeah, I know; supposed to be clearing out the clutter and I buy more junk. (Sigh)

Worldly goods still in storage and we're awaiting the Return of the Decorators. Dog a bit better.
Been outside standing like an idiot watching the stars for the Perseid meteor shower; nothing moving and too cold to stay out, so have given up on shooting stars again. The glories of life just pass me by!!

A busy day - everywhere from the Statue of Liberty to the 9-11 memorial pools.

It was a pre-booked bus tour - And it turned out that we were the only two passengers. But the guide valiantly went through his entire spiel anyway.

But it was the flatiron building that tickled me most. How did someone design this??? It takes my breath away.

The Times today has special readers offers on courses:

course

Yes, I can just see me sitting all winter stuffing squirrels in this brave new world. The price must include your first squirrel. WTF!
I can't see that attracting new readers somehow.
