Hello Flist,

It's been too long. I've taken a long break from all things fannish, though not a break from television and it seems appropriate somehow that pimping tv has driven me to post on lj.

Eventually this will be about The Groosalugg I promise.

Somewhat long-winded story for my Canadian friends.Collapse )

So tonight I discovered Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang ranks up there as one of my favorite movies evah! The writing and acting is wicked funny. It's a modern pulp fiction fairy tale staring Robert Downey Jr., how could you go wrong?

Granted I've been drinking wine, but damn this movie is funny.

I loved every minute of it including the opening credits which are gorgeous.

There were a few moments where I suspected I'd fallen into a Quentin Tarrantino film but then shazam the writing reminded me I SO had not. Give it a shot if you haven't already.

I think I might even hate Val Kilmer less than before. And RDJ remains as adorable as ever.

What is this Science of Stargate thing? Will I be sorry I missed it? It conflicts with Avatar!

New layouts are bliss. It's been such a long time since I've watched a show that inspired me to the point where I wanted to bust out PSP and make something. But Avatar is so pretty I couldn't resist changing my journal.

And so this post isn't solely a gratuitous 'new layout' post, here are some icons for you should you want them.

So thanks to liminalliz's raving about Avatar, I sought out the show.  I've now seen all of Book 1 and I'm hooked. I love it so very much.

As a good victim consumer I sought out toys only to discover there is no Katara action figure. There are three Aangs, three Zukos, and one Sokka. There's even an Appa and a Momo, but no Katara! I'm feeling all righteously indignant for little girls everywhere. I mean seriously WTF?

Someone tell me its coming, that it's all a mistake.  Don't make me write a letter to Mattel, the bastards.  I think this kind of makes me want to cry.

This weekend I watched Revenger's Tragedy. I rented it because Christopher Eccleston was in it and I miss him (just a bit). I was more than a little suspicious that it would be awful.

How wrong I was. I loved this crack-addled movie and not simply for CE. My love has driven me to picspam.

Liverpuddlians put on a Jacobian play set in 2012.Collapse )

Have you ever decided to clean the old keys off of your keychain and later realized they were there for a reason?

Erm...yeah. So I really wish I had those laptop lock keys back now. Anyone every picked a cylindrical lock with a bic pen successfully?
I hear it can be done.

In other news, I've been really relishing Jane Espenson's blog entries lately. If you enjoy her shows, reading about television writing and her advice on humor and the industry its worth adding to your LJ RSS feeds. One of her more recent entries totally lured me in with this title: Admiral Adama and a Frilly Lampshade. And though that's the only actual bsg mention contained therein, the entry only gets better.

This news makes me SO HAPPY! To all my friends with BBC America give this show a go, if you haven't already via other means.

It might be considered a little dated these days, but nevermind. My love for Tim and Daisy is vast.

5/11/2006 2:26:00 PMBBC America is adding a new British comedy import and introducing a second season of another, both in June.

The new show is Spaced, written by Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) and Jessica Stevenson (Smack the Pony), chronicling the agony and ecstasy of two disillusioned Gen X-ers adrift in a world where reality is as subjective as their taste in shoes. Produced by Paramount Comedy and LWT for the U.K.’s Channel 4, it premieres with an hour-long special (two of seven 30-minute episodes) Friday, June 23, at 11 p.m. (EST)/8 p.m. (PST).

...

Both comedies will premiere in “The Underground,” BBC America’s late-night zone that showcases adult, irreverent comedies.

I just had to bring this to my flist's attention because this snopes RSS feed has prompted one of the more entertaining LJ comments entries ever.

The original topic was whether women with tatoos on their lower back might be denied an epidural. The LJ comments sink quickly into several other topics, one of the more entertaining is a debate on whether childbirth is painful...
