SECURITY
In the Diocese of Washington, we want our churches to be open and inviting to everyone who comes through our doors, but at the same time, it is important that our church buildings and grounds are safe and secure spaces.
There are some steps congregational leaders can take to enhance the safety and security of their property:
- Ensuring doors and windows are locked
- Installing cameras or monitors, an alarm system, and/or motion sensitive lighting
Congregations should also establish a relationship with local law enforcement, as they are the ones who would come to your church in the event of an emergency, and local law enforcement is often willing to visit your property, conduct a security assessment and make recommendations for enhancing security.
