Engineering Management

What is Engineering Management?

Engineering Management is critical to the positive commercial outcome of all projects from concept design development through to project completion, across contractual arrangements. Our team drives technical alignment and outcomes across internal and external stakeholders by delivering to the requirements whilst overlaying the critical consideration of safety for the environment and communities where we work. Our engineering solutions consider construction, commercial, risk, planning, completion and handover, temporary works, staging, and operator/maintainer needs.

Ediom Engineering Management services focus on:

Design

A robust design solution that facilitates construction and optimises value for money. More specifically, we will do this by driving processes that focus on:

  • Ensuring a balance between project stakeholder requirements and approvals whilst containing the scope.
  • Challenging the design solution against best practice design, leveraging lessons learnt and innovations.
  • Supporting efficient construction whilst minimising disruption during delivery/input from construction.

Impactful innovations and constructive challenges that optimise the project’s value for money. More specifically, we will do this by driving processes that focus on:

  • Navigating design and constructability reviews to include meaningful challenges and capturing innovations and value-add items across all project stakeholders.
  • Ensuring a clear decision-making process (e.g., MCA) to consider design and constructability decisions against cost, program, technical, and risk factors.
  • Ensuring appropriate levels of engagement and approval with project stakeholders on options and closeout.
  • Unpacking complex interfaces.
  • Adopting a logical and pragmatic approach to remove the contractual risk associated with excessive cost and time implications.

The Engineering Management function is critical to the commercial outcome of all projects:

  • Navigating the upstream and downstream contractual arrangements and translating them through the Engineering requirements for the project life cycle.
  • Ensuring that engineering decisions are developed with an understanding of commercial impacts upstream, downstream, and for the asset operator and maintainer.

De-risking the solution and ensuring all project stakeholders are accountable for, and manage, their risks.

More specifically, we will do this by driving processes that focus on:

  • Ensuring effective processes/mechanisms are in place for risk capture and management during the TOC phase, which captures risks and opportunities across the project lifecycle (design to completion).
  • Ensuring the process enables adequate identification and review of risks to all project stakeholders.

Plan for completion and handover from the start:

  • Understanding the handover obligations from the start of the project and embedding them in the engineering delivery.
  • Ensuring that completion requirements are understood, and resources are planned for the delivery of these activities.

Systems Engineering & Safety Assurance

Ediom Systems Solutions

Our team starts with the end in mind and tailors your Systems Engineering & Safety Assurance (SESA) approach to deliver a balance between compliance and value from the outset. We save the client time and money through a right-sized framework with a risk-based approach that considers Systems Risk, Performance Risk, and Delivery Risk.

Our SESA team has diverse experience across a range of industries, encompassing mature systems engineering capabilities and an outcome mindset. We have deep experience in a range of systems engineering processes and tools, critically understanding the outcome each tool or process delivers and how to bring them together into a tailored, cost-effective framework.

We provide:

Systems Architecture
  • System Breakdown Structures and System Architectures appropriate to the solution and aligned with the delivery framework to minimise traceability overhead.
  • Requirements architecture scaled and appropriate for the job, maintaining and leveraging clear traceability.
  • Managed requirements allocation and derivation to ensure a single, coherent set of requirements that is as small as possible by removing duplication that can arise through poorly managed Life Cycle Analyses (Safety, HF, RAM, etc.).
  • Simplified traceability so the design and delivery team know what they have to do and can prove they have done it.
  • Establish and optimise the requirements management tool, whether it is Excel, Relatics, or DOORS NG®.
  • Change management throughout the project lifecycle, integrated with mature processes like Non Conformance Reporting, Quality Witness, Hold Points, etc.
  • A verification and validation approach that leverages and integrates with existing processes (e.g., Quality and Completions).
  • Effective management of the test program to ensure it is appropriately scaled to the risk profile of the solution.
  • Hazard Identification through well-established, systematic processes such as Safety in Design, HAZOP, HAZID, SWIFT, and CHAIR.
  • Qualitative and Quantitative Hazard Analyses including PHA, SHA, IHA, OSHA, FMECA, SIL Assessments, etc.
Expert safety workshop chairperson/facilitation to ensure safety requirements are effectively developed and documented to address hazards whilst simultaneously protecting the scope of the project.
  • Project Assurance throughout the engineering lifecycle, including assurance methodologies and procedures through management plans, audits, working with ISAs, implementation, and test and commissioning.
  • Technical documentation production of Project Assurance Reports, Safety Assurance Reports, and Safety Cases that clearly show evidence against the developed safety argument and reduction of risk SFAIRP.
  • Integrated Human Factors approach from Early Human Factors Analysis of concepts through to comprehensive analysis and design optimisation, feeding into safety assessments and management of issues through Human Factors Issues Registers.
  • Identification and management of all interfaces covering technical, process, and organisational interfaces.
  • Planned integration of the subsystems based on technical and project risk to ensure mitigation of complex risks as early as practicable.
  • Effective relationship building and technical translation to help all parties to an integrated solution deliver success alongside each other.
