The problems with your modem must have been caused by the lack of the driver's installation. You need to install the software in compatibility mode, then plug-in the modem and access Device manager (Start > Run > devmgmt.msc). Locate the modem in the list and right click it. Select Update Driver and let the wizard install it automatically and it should work correctly.

You need to visit DeLL Support and properly identify your product. Use the service number located on the back sticker and access the download list. Select Windows 7 as operating system and then download the required drivers.
If you have a custom mode, use the Device Manager to install it manually. First apply a compatibility tweak to Windows XP then use Device Manager and manually update the driver.

Press Windows + R key combination, type devmgmt.msc and click OK. Expand the Network Adapters list, right-click on the modem driver and select Uninstall. After that, reboot your computer, press Scan for hardware changes icon from Device Manager and reinstall the drivers. If you no longer have the modem drivers, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information, expand the Components list, click Modem and check the device model in the right pane. After that, navigate to the developer's website and download and install the latest drivers available.
