Ecstatica

Ecstatica is a third-person horror game with fixed camera angles, like the early Alone in the Dark and Resident Evil saga games, first released in 1994 for MS-DOS. This version of the game, known as Ecstatica - A State of Mind, is Windows-compatible and supports modern resolutions, DirectDraw emulation and general performance improvements.

Unzip and start playing instantly

Thanks to the improvements included with this version ofEcstatica, all you have to do to play is unzip the compressed file and double-click on the executable. And that's it. In the INFO.txt file, you can have a look at the controls (played with the numeric keypad). Keep in mind that the game starts in full screen by default, with the native resolution of your main monitor.

A horror adventure with a touch of humor

One of the most interesting parts of Ecstatica is that, despite being mainly a horror game with some doses of action, there are also some funny moments in the story. In the first minute of gameplay, for example, you'll watch the main character clumsily stumble over a stone, not realizing that he's being followed by some kind of goblin. When you're captured, you'll also see the game's demons having a drink at the bar.

Save the village of Tirich from demons

The Ecstatica story is set in the year 928, in the village of Tirich, a fictional place that, given its appearance, seems to be located somewhere in Europe. The story begins when the game's protagonist (who can be male or female) runs out of water and supplies near this village. When you enter the village, you'll discover that a group of demons is terrorizing all the townspeople. Your goal is to find out why...and how to stop it.

A horror classic for PC

Download Ecstatica if you like classic horror games. Thanks to this version, you can enjoy it comfortably on any modern Windows computer, without having to do anything more than double-click on an executable. This is a very fun (and very difficult) game that stood out in its day for having some of the most evocative cover art you could find in any store, thanks to the artist Carl Critchlow.
