EarthquakeView is a program that provides real-time information about earthquakes. Its purpose is to inform you when new quakes occur around the world and provide some basic data about them by means of an interactive map. It is an application intended for informational purposes and its developers say that is not to be used as a tool to 'determine risks'.

After a simple setup, the program will connect to the website of the USGS (United States Geological Survey) and sit on the system tray. From there, it will update at fixed intervals and will announce by means of sounds and notifications when an earthquake occurs somewhere in the world. Along with the alarm, it will indicate the location of the quake in the map and will tell you the exact time it occurred, its magnitude, and will also offer you a link so you can read more detailed information on the USGS's site.

The program is very easy to use and needs almost no configuration. You can specify whether you want a sound alarm and popup, and also change the colors the program uses to mark quakes in the map. It is also possible to make other adjustments like change the base map and run the program with Windows startup.
