Cookies are delicious. Every opossum loves cookies. Corporate spyware and belligerent ad-subservient ruin of the internet and personal privacy sucks a lot though. This page is a little bit about that.
We use – I think – about 20 total cookies. One is for the cookie consent thing that makes us compliant with the European Union’s requirements. Three are for the comment applet that allows reader commentary. Three are for the WordPress admin login that allows me to post stuff for readers to comment on. And every single other one is from Google Analytics. That’s probably mostly being used by Google to effectively sell marketing data to other firms, if we’re being totally honest. I have it because I’ve always had it; I think it came with WordPress and certainly it was present on Blogger, from whence I transferred. Truthfully I’m not certain it is configured entirely right (so it’s probably mistaken in its ad data somewhere), as it’s never been quite as smooth an experience as seeing the Blogger dashboard was. Anyway, it’s here so I can watch bars go up and down and see a map where people read my blog from. In a perfect world (the world of the Old Internet), the program would do nothing more than count views and show me where they come from for my own simple amusement, but I think we all know Google is just watching what you do and where you go next to better inform companies about D&D nerd habits and opossum fanatic habits so those companies can sell you shirts and board games.
In general, I don’t have access to or retain any real data about you, but Google might, probably all over the internet all the time. I’m sure everyone is used to that by now. What a mess we’ve allowed. The boilerplate is below, so I am in compliance with the European Union, who seems to care much more for the privacy or at least the illusion of privacy than our government. Please know, though, that I won’t be adding creepy tracking stuff to this site at any point, and if you have concerns or alternative suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me through any means available to you! I am very open to changing software and such if you know better options or are concerned about these ones.
