DCW Introduction to Wild Clay is a hands-on, small-group workshop led by artist and ceramicist Kristina Gondová. Explore how to find, test and process wild clay, learning simple techniques to transform raw earth into usable material and slips. You’ll then use these to decorate a selection of ceramic pieces, working intuitively with materials gathered from the landscape.
Suitable for beginners and ceramicists alike, this workshop offers a focused introduction to foraging and working with natural materials. Participants will leave with their own wild clay ceramic piece, and new ways of thinking about clay!
We are delighted for this event to be included as Part of Dundee Month of Design 2026.

Across the sessions, you’ll explore research, design, and experimentation while developing the skills needed to create more complex forms. You’ll learn how to throw a range of vessels, including bottle shapes, larger plates, bowls, and jugs, and discover different methods for attaching handles. The course will also introduce more specialised trimming techniques to help you refine and finish your work with care.
In the final session, you’ll move into surface decoration, using underglazes and glazes to paint and personalise the pieces you’ve made over the previous five weeks. By the end of the course, you’ll have a small collection of finished vessels! And intermediate throwing techniques.
