wood stains and lacquers

DUM’s new series of knockout water-based stain and lacquer colours of our wood collection contain no heavy metals, and ten times fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This means that they are ten times less damaging for the environment than conventional stains and lacquers.
By reducing these emissions, DUM is playing its part in making the world a shade greener – even though we still love yellow the most.

Please note the following: Stained wood products can have variable varnish absorption, stain absorption and/or surface structure due to differences in the wood structure and knots. Deviations cannot be avoided.

For bended wooden furniture, we use solid wood that has not been treated with solvents or chemicals. Consequently, there may be colour differences between the various parts. This is a natural feature of steam-bended wood.

Veneer is a thin layer of wood and like solid wood, it is a natural product with all the associated properties. No two veneer sheets are identical. It is not possible to prevent deviations.

veneer and solid table tops

There are a number of ways in which veneer leaves can be combined to produce the final veneer sheet. DUM uses the mix-matched or planked technique, in which the veneers are randomly joined together to give the final panel the appearance of solid wood. Connecting table tops therefore do not have a continuous pattern. The image below is an example of a beautiful, natural veneer look layout.
This principle of mix and match is also applied for the solid tops.

A key advantage of mix-matched is that if panels ever need to be moved or replaced, this can easily be done without the difficulty of exactly replicating the panel layout.
It also generates much less rejection and waste than other veneer techniques, which is of course a much more sustainable choice.
