DRAC Command Line Tools by Dell
DRAC Command Line Tools is a suite of command-line utilities that lets you configure and manage Dell PowerEdge servers through the integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC). Designed for speed, repeatability, and automation, the tools—centered around the RACADM utility—enable secure, out-of-band server administration without requiring a graphical interface.
Key capabilities
- Provision and configure iDRAC settings: network, users and roles, LDAP/AD, alerts, NTP, SNMP
- Power and boot control: power on/off/cycle, graceful shutdowns, boot order management
- Firmware and configuration management: update firmware, manage the job queue, apply BIOS and hardware settings
- Storage and system configuration via Lifecycle Controller jobs (where supported)
- Log and inventory collection: System Event Log, Lifecycle Log, and hardware inventory
- Virtual media mounting for remote installation and recovery
- Export and import Server Configuration Profiles for rapid, consistent provisioning
- Scriptable automation from Bash, PowerShell, or your preferred orchestration tools
- Secure access over SSH/HTTPS with role-based permissions and auditing
How it’s used
- Standardize and automate server provisioning at scale
- Troubleshoot and recover systems remotely in headless environments
- Enforce consistent security and firmware baselines across fleets
- Integrate hardware management into CI/CD, configuration management, and ITSM workflows
Requirements
- Dell PowerEdge server with a supported iDRAC version (some features require specific iDRAC licenses or Lifecycle Controller support)
- Administrative credentials and network access to the iDRAC interface (typically ports 22 and 443)
- Windows or Linux host for running the tools; local execution on the server may require the appropriate Dell agent
With DRAC Command Line Tools, administrators gain a reliable, scriptable, and secure way to manage Dell servers throughout their lifecycle—from initial provisioning to ongoing operations and remediation.
DRAC Command Line Tools is developed by Dell and is used by 3 users of Software Informer. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 8.0, 8.1 and 8.2.
