Down the road from me the most beautiful vine (that is taking over a building and several other neighbouring trees..) has changed colour with the seasons.. Although I have yet to save for my macro lens, I took my new lens beast out to see how it would handle things in its limited macro mode. I'm reasonably happy with it, given it was a little out of its depth.

Mostly I'm really happy with the warmth of the vine - as I walk past it in the mornings and the evenings it's lovely watching it change.

I spent Saturday night down in Mandurah - something I hope to do more of on occasion.. and in the morning Mum and Dads new pup Rissy became a superstar as she politely tolerated being used as a model for my 50mm...

I purchased a new beast... a new (to me) digital SLR Camera... and we're having fun together, especially with my 50mm.

Picture of tonights base salad... added on top was honey carrot with chicken marinated in sun dried tomato and basil...

So as some of you know I take photos at weddings.. it's fun, keeps me off the street, that kind of thing. One of my dear friends told me I should share some of my stories - start a wedding blog so to speak - but I'm a little scared one of my clients would catch on haha

HOWEVER This story is reasonably safe to tell..

Today I was taking photos at "St Mathew's Anglican Church - Stirling Square in Guildford". It was one of my least-well organised weddings as the Bride and Groom didn't actually confirm they wanted me to take photos until a few weeks ago, and didn't actually confirm the venue with me.. I had to eventually chase it up through a bridesmaid who was a wedding planner at a wedding I photographed last year.

I visited St Mathew's earlier in the week, made sure it was the right spot, got some photo locale ideas, all was swell. I pulled up 15 minutes earlier than I was meant to clock on, and was quite confused as a limo started pulling towards the Church.. that was it.. photo time game-on! I ran across the road, in a swift movement I put my flash on my camera as I descended upon the limo praying the Bride didn't get out before I got there. The Bridesmaids came out one by one, gorgeous red dresses, I took photos of the limo, of them coming out and then the Bride... only this Bride was Brunette.. and my Bride is blonde. Ummm. I had a quick scan of the Bridesmaids and noticed I didn't recognise my wedding-planner contact.. oh dear.

It was the wrong Bridal party.

How does this happen?? Did I have the right venue??? Have they double booked the Church?? Where's MY Bride??? Is this the worst mistake of my tinsy wincy small life as a photographer?? I ran back to my car, faster than chilli-con-carne through a digestive system, and grabbed the address, checked it against google maps, ran back to the church and confirmed on the plaque out the front that it was, yes indeedy, the right St Mathews Anglican Church - Stirling Square in Guildford.

A confused guest came across me... checking with me who the wedding was meant to be for as she didn't recognise any of the guests.. there was hope, she had arrived for the same wedding as I had. But who were these guests, and where was the Groom?

I now had 10 minutes to work out if I was at the right spot, and if I wasn't, get my ass TO the right spot.

I dashed on into the Church, found the Pastor and HURRAH! MY Bride was expected any second now, and he didn't know who the hell Impostor Bride was and what business she had with his Church but was sure all would resolve itself soon enough (the Pastor is a hell of a lot easier to spot in a crowd than a Groom, believe you me, all those men in suits... harder than you'd expect to play spot the Groom). Fortunately the Pastor was able to pick him out for me, so I went and introduced myself, you know, as you do...

Impostor Bride, as it turns out, was having her wedding in Stirling Gardens, the Gardens the Church is located in, which effectively stuffed up all my recon planning for photos and some serious improvisation was required later on... (after the ceremony there were THREE Bridal parties getting their photos done in the gardens, it was worse than UWA on a Sunday!!!)

Quickly I deleted the photos of Impostor Bride, and grinned as some of the guests worked out that they were mingling at the wrong wedding.. ahh it's good to know I wasn't alone.

So that, my lovelies, is my amusing story from today's wedding... I'm not sure if in reflection it's as good as it is in my mind, but oh well.. it's been far too long between entries, and I thought you might appreciate this one.

Hope all is well out there... if anyone is left out there... (echoo.. echoooo)

Dear Baby Girl

You’re another year older, wow look at you grow! It seems like such a short time ago since you were turning one… I now understand why people say you blink and then they’re all grown up. Now you’re not all grown up, you’re only two after all, but I do need to seriously revise calling you “Baby Girl” – however you still respond to it by giving me squeals and hugs and giggles… so I might persist with it a bit longer.

For your birthday I gave you a sensible gift, I’m sorry, a shirt and a dress which hopefully you’ll love to wear. I made up for it though by giving you a keyboard and microphone for you to woo audiences with karaoke style! I may be in your parent’s bad books for quite a while on that one, but given the excited zeal coming from you as you embraced the microphone at Sizzler last night and started to slobber on it… I trust my decision was sound. (pardon the pun).

I saw you a little less this year, and I was away for three months but fortunately you remembered me when I got back. All those wizzy dizzys and swooshes I gave you paid off in that respect but as you get a little larger Aunty Kim’s back isn’t coping so well with picking you up and swinging you around. I’m working on finding a more ergonomic way to achieve flinging you in the air but until that solution is found, I’ll just try to increase my strength at the gym to keep up with your growth.

2009 has seen you grow from a cute toddler to a little girl and I’ve loved seeing you learn and discover new things and watching your family be so proud of you. Your brothers dote over you, your Mum and Dad love you and you love them in return. You run around in circles excited when you hear Daddy come home, you snuggle up to Mum whenever snuggling is required, and I'm sure in time you will gladly deliver coke and pepsimax cans to them both.

I look forward to seeing what 2010 brings for you, as you grow even more, hurt my back even more, and you fine tune your piano skills much to the delight of Mummy and Daddy.

Sending you lots of love Baby Girl

-Aunty Kim

Melbourne always creates a strange stir of excitement, warmth, and insecurity in me. I'm not really sure if this is the forum anymore to discuss that kind of thing, but there you have it.

The other thing that melbourne brings, is gluttony! In terms of the food lovers update to Melbourne, this morning I applied the same rule to locating breakfast on Lygon street as one does to choosing a dimsum location. I walked along, eyeing off restaraunts empty, a few stragglers, and then there it was, I knew I had found the spot, a cafe chockers with Italians! And breakfast, hopefully pictured below, was delicious! The bittersweet taste of my mocha, the tang of berry compote smoothed by ricotta.. Delightful!

Tomorrow morning I'll walk further afield to see if I can find another such wonder... And sit by the street, sipping my mocha while hopefully reading the final few chapters of my book.

For now it's off to the city for lunch with my brother and maybe, just maybe, some shopping.
